Background: Valacyclovir-induced neurotoxicity is a rare side effect. The aim of this study was to perform a retrospective analysis of patients with valacyclovir-induced neurotoxicity and establish valacyclovir plasma concentrations in a tertiary hospital between January 2018 and November 2022.

Case Descriptions: In total 208 patients were identified with measured acyclovir concentrations, and the electronic health records of these patients were analysed.

Increased and changed deposition of extracellular matrix proteins is a key feature of airway wall remodeling in obstructive pulmonary diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Studies have highlighted that the deposition of various basement membrane proteins in the lung tissue is altered and that these changes reflect tissue compartment specificity. Inflammatory responses in both diseases may result in the deregulation of production and degradation of these proteins.

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a type of induced cell totipotency where embryos develop from vegetative tissues of the plant instead of from gamete fusion after fertilization. SE can be induced in vitro by exposing explants to growth regulators, such as the auxinic herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). The plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) has been proposed to be a downstream signalling component at the intersection between 2,4-D- and stress-induced SE, but it is not known how these pathways interact to induce cell totipotency.

We investigated the effect of dry-heat treatment on the properties of faba bean protein concentrate using soy protein concentrate as a benchmark. While soy protein-widely used as an ingredient in meat replacers-is recovered through a wet fractionation, protein recovery from starch bearing pulses like faba bean can be done via dry fractionation. This process does not require drying or heating steps and therefore, keeps the original protein functionality intact.

Candida infections in the elderly are an important and expanding clinical problem, with significantly higher mortality in this group than in younger patients. The increasing problem of invasive Candida infections may be related to higher prevalence of immunocompromised older people and the emergence of treatment resistance. Older people, especially the frail and critically ill, are at higher risk of medication-related harmful effects due to changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, which may be further complicated by organ dysfunction, diminished homeostatic control, co-morbidities and polypharmacy.
