Article Synopsis
  • Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) is a genetic connective tissue disorder that leads to skin changes, primarily yellow papules and excess skin around areas like the neck, causing notable aesthetic and psychological effects, especially in women.* -
  • A study conducted at a University-Hospital from 2007 to 2022 evaluated treatment options for patients with PXE, focusing on surgical procedures to reduce the size of skin lesions rather than complete removal.* -
  • Out of 250 patients, 30 underwent surgery with methods like facelifts and skin tightening; results were mostly satisfactory with no complications, highlighting the potential for effective surgical intervention in managing PXE-related skin issues.*

Self-enhancement (SE) is often overlooked as a fundamental cognitive ability mediated via the Prefrontal Cortex (PFC). Here, we present research that establishes the relationship between the PFC, SE, and the potential evolved beneficial mechanisms. Specifically, we believe there is now enough evidence to speculate that SE exists to provide significant benefits and should be considered a normal aspect of the self.

Background: The Face is the most frequent localization for cutaneous carcinoma. The nose accounts for about 30% of these tumors. Nose tissue loss repair has to pursue 3 types of objectives: carcinologic, aesthetic and functional.

Genes are expressed in stochastic transcriptional bursts linked to alternating active and inactive promoter states. A major challenge in transcription is understanding how promoter composition dictates bursting, particularly in multicellular organisms. We investigate two key Drosophila developmental promoter motifs, the TATA box (TATA) and the Initiator (INR).

Background: A general belief is to consider elderly patients as poor candidates for free flap reconstruction, which does not reflect our 20-year experience for breast reconstruction (BR). The aim of this study was to determine the safety and benefits of BR using deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) free flap in the elderly population.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all consecutive BRs using DIEP flaps in patients 65 years or older at the European Georges Pompidou Hospital from January 2011 to December 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers have used the SunTag method to visualize and measure the translation of single mRNAs into proteins in living embryos.
  • The study specifically focuses on the mRNA translation of the protein Twist, which is important for cell development, revealing differences in translation efficiency across different regions.
  • The findings highlight the presence of "translation factories" where clustered mRNAs are co-translated, providing insights into how gene regulation occurs during organism development.

Acquisition of cell fate is thought to rely on the specific interaction of remote cis-regulatory modules (CRMs), for example, enhancers and target promoters. However, the precise interplay between chromatin structure and gene expression is still unclear, particularly within multicellular developing organisms. In the present study, we employ Hi-M, a single-cell spatial genomics approach, to detect CRM-promoter looping interactions within topologically associating domains (TADs) during early Drosophila development.

In this paper, we study the conditions for the perception of object kinetics, produced by a multiview auto-stereoscopic system and a set of still images. We assess the capabilities and performances of such an optical system to encode complex trajectories and kinetics of objects moving in depth. In particular, we set up rules to create motions with nonuniform velocities, when obtained by motion parallax induced by the observer.

Our hypothesis was that immediate repetition of a microsurgery-suturing task will improve its execution and outcome. This was an experimental animal study. Ten surgeons were divided into two groups of five surgeons.

Pioneer transcription factors can engage nucleosomal DNA, which leads to local chromatin remodeling and to the establishment of transcriptional competence. However, the impact of enhancer priming by pioneer factors on the temporal control of gene expression and on mitotic memory remains unclear. Here we employ quantitative live imaging methods and mathematical modeling to test the effect of the pioneer factor Zelda on transcriptional dynamics and memory in Drosophila embryos.

Report of a syndrome constituted from sensorineural deaf mutism, lymphoedema of lower limbs with early onset and haematological anomalies (aucte myeloblastic leukaemia, cytopenia) in four individuals (three boys and two girls from two generations). This observation suggest autosomal dominant transmission, however recessive transmission cannot be formelly excluded.
