Pulpal expression of erythropoietin and erythropoietin receptor after direct pulp capping in rat.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of direct pulp capping on the expression of erythropoietin (Epo) and Epo-receptor (Epor) genes in relation to the expression of inflammatory and osteogenic genes in rat pulp. Dental pulps of the first maxillary molars of Wistar Albino rats were exposed and capped with either calcium hydroxide or mineral trioxide aggregate, or were left untreated. After 4 wk, animals were euthanized, and maxillae were prepared for histological and real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis.

Application of the Kvaal Method in Age Estimation of the Serbian Population Based on Dental Radiographs.

This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of the Kvaal method in determining the age of a Serbian population. In this retrospective descriptive study, 170 dental patients (age range 16-77 years) were included. The measurements of six types of teeth were performed on digital orthopantomography radiographs according to the Kvaal method.

Possible association of methotrexate use with osteonecrosis of the jaw: Systematic review.

The aim was to search systematically, evaluate, and then summarize scientific literature about possible methotrexate-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), its signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in adults. After registration at PROSPERO this systematic review was conducted and reported according to the PRISMA checklist. The following databases were systematically searched: MEDLINE, EBSCO, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Central), SCIndex, Scopus, Google Scholar and Registry of clinical studies with human participants.

Septic arthritis of the temporomandibular joint in adults: Systematic review.

Background: Septic arthritis of the temporomandibular joint (SATMJ) is acute or chronic bacterial or fungal infection involving temporomandibular joint (TMJ) space. It is a disease with high mortality in whole body joints, and about three-fourths of survivors have residual malfunctioning of the affected joint.

Objective: The aim of this review was to search systematically, evaluate and then summarize scientific literature about etiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the SATMJ in adults.

The prevalence of oval-shaped root canals: A morphometric study using cone-beam computed tomography and image analysis software.

This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of oval-shaped root canals at the apical, medial and coronal cross sections of all tooth groups using CBCT and image analysis software. Based on the diameter values, the long/short diameter ratio was calculated and each root canal was classified regarding its shape. Oval-shaped canals were present in 45% at the apical, 50% at the medial and 56% at the coronal level of all teeth.

[Anatomohistological characteristics of Meckel's diverticulum in human fetuses].

Background/aim: Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most frequent anomaly of the small intestine. It appears after incomplete obliteration of the omphalomesenteric or viteline duct which normaly obliterates and disappears by the 9th week of gestation. The majority of MD do not give rise to any clinical symptoms and are encounted either incidentally, at examination or intervention, or due to complications which may occur (obstruction, hemorrhagy, rupture), and are described in many clinical reports.

Morphological aspect of the thyroid ima artery in human fetuses.

Some morphological characteristics of the variable thyroid ima artery were investigated on the injected fetal arteries and explained on their 106 static images. Thyroid ima artery of different origin was proven in 18 (16.9%) cases.
