Inflammatory markers and their association with preeclampsia among pregnant women: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The goal of this review was to investigate the levels of pro-inflammatory markers such as Tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) Interlukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and ferritin in pre-eclamptic and normotensive pregnant women. Using PubMed, ProQuest and Google Scholar databases, a literature search was carried out and case-control studies showing associations between inflammatory markers and preeclampsia in pregnancy published between 2010 and 2023 were included. The risk of bias was assessed by using the Newcastle Ottawa quality assessment scale.

Efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block compared to sham procedure in adult patients with rib fractures presenting to the emergency department: A randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: The primary objective was to compare the analgesic efficacy of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) with a sham procedure in adult patients presenting with rib fractures to the emergency department (ED).

Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted at an academic ED over a 17-month period. Forty-six adults with confirmed rib fractures and numeric rating score (NRS) greater than 4 were randomized to one of two treatment arms: ultrasound-guided ESPB group or placebo (sham procedure).

Investigation of the Utility of Multivariate Meta-Analysis Methods in Estimating the Summary Dose Response Curve.

Background: Traditional meta-analyses often assess the effectiveness of different doses of the same intervention separately or examine the overall differences between intervention and placebo groups. The present study aimed to model the effect sizes obtained from different doses in multiple studies using a two-stage dose-response meta-analytic approach while taking dose variations into account.

Methods: Different dose-response meta-analysis models using linear, quadratic, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) functions were fitted.

Variable Virulence Genes in Clinical Isolates of : Impact on Disease Severity and Outcome in Melioidosis.

 To isolate from clinical specimens and study the association of virulence genes with clinical manifestations and outcome in patients with melioidosis.   isolates obtained from melioidosis cases diagnosed during 2018 to 2021 were identified using VITEK 2 system and confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting a Type III secretion system gene cluster. Multiplex PCR was performed to detect the genotypes of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) namely A, B, and B2, and singleplex PCR was performed to detect the presence of the intracellular motility gene ( ) and filamentous hemagglutinin gene ( ).

Estimation of seroprevalence of melioidosis among adult high risk groups in Southeastern India by indirect Hemagglutination assay.

Burkholderia pseudomallei is an environmental saprophyte known to cause melioidosis, a disease endemic in northern Australia and Southeast Asia. With the increasing number of melioidosis cases, there is a lack of data on seroprevalence rates and extent of exposure in high risk population of melioidosis from different endemic regions in India. The present cross sectional study was undertaken to estimate the seroprevalence of melioidosis in high risk populations in and around Puducherry, a coastal town in Southeastern India.

Maternal and perinatal outcome in pregnancies complicated with portal hypertension: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Portal hypertension is secondary to either cirrhotic or non-cirrhotic causes, and complicating pregnancy poses a challenge to the treating team. A systematic review was performed to determine maternal and perinatal outcomes in women with portal hypertension. Outcomes were compared among those with cirrhotic (CPH) with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension (NCPH) as well as non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis (NCPF) with extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO).

Efficacy of pharmacological interventions in COVID-19: A network meta-analysis.

Aims: To perform network meta-analysis for a head-to-head comparison of various interventions used in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on mortality, clinical recovery, time to clinical improvement and the occurrence of serious adverse events.

Methods: Systematic search was performed using online databases with suitable MeSH terms including coronavirus, COVID-19, randomized controlled trial, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir/ritonavir, tocilizumab, remdesivir, favipiravir, dexamethasone and interferon-β. Data were independently extracted by 2 study investigators and analysed.
