Titanium has been considered as one of the most biocompatible metals. Studies testing its corrosion resistance have proposed that the titanium oxide layer formed on the metal surface is lost under certain unavoidable conditions to which it is exposed in the oral environment. This questions its property of corrosion resistance in the oral cavity.
