Article Synopsis
  • Modern agriculture relies heavily on synthetic fertilizers, which contribute about 5% to global greenhouse gas emissions, leading to a need for effective alternatives that reduce emissions while maintaining crop productivity.
  • Steel slag, a by-product of steel manufacturing, is a cost-effective and nutrient-rich substitute that could be beneficial for farmers in low-middle income countries, but it poses risks such as pollutant transfer to the food chain and disturbances to plant-microbe relationships, particularly with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF).
  • A study using barley showed that while slag improved grain yield and met WHO pollutant limits, it also reduced AMF colonization in roots, which negatively affected nutrient uptake and could lead to ecological problems in the long

Objective: To determine the best possible value of pathological PCI (pPCI) as a prognostic marker for survival in high-grade serous epithelial ovarian cancer patients in patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and interval cytoreductive surgery.

Methods: All patients with FIGO stage IIIC high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma were included. Receiver operating curves (ROC) were used to determine the best possible score for pPCI in predicting survival.

The effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) digluconate, Betadine (BET), curcumin (CUR) on gingival wound healing is of interest to dental practitioners. Hence, we studied the average fibroblast viability % for each of the concentrations of CUR, BET and CHX over various time durations. It was found that mean percentage of viability of fibroblasts is high in CUR and low in CHX at all time periods while the mean percentage of viability of fibroblasts in BET 1% was greater than CHX but lower than CUR at all time periods.

Infrared (IR) radiation has been used in food processing applications for its unique high heating efficiency. There is a great need to address the radiation absorption and heating effect during the application of IR in the processing of foods. The radiation wavelength determines the nature of the processing, and it is mainly affected by the type of emitter, operating temperature, and the power supplied.

Wood chips were used in their original form without any physical or chemical treatment as reinforcement for polypropylene to develop composites as potential replacement for medium density fiber (MDF) boards, gypsum based false ceiling and other building materials. Wood chips are generated as byproducts and have limited and low value applications. Composites with up to 90% wood chips were developed through compression molding and the mechanical, acoustic and thermal properties were studied.

Soil contaminants threaten global food security by posing threats to food safety through food chain pollution. Fly ash is a potential agent of soil contamination that contains heavy metals and hazardous pollutants. However, being rich in macro- and micronutrients that have direct beneficial effects on plant growth, fly ash has been recommended as a low-cost soil ameliorant in agriculture in countries of the Global South.

Distillery spent wash (DSW) from molasses-based distilleries is being used as a low-cost alternative to chemical fertilizers in countries like India and Brazil. However, using DSW as a fertilizer substitute causes organic pollutant leaching, including melanoidins and caramel colourants that turn bodies of water dark brown. This study investigated the arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) mediated degradation of organic pollutants in DSW.

Simultaneous detection of multiple biomarkers is always an obstacle in immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis. Herein, a straightforward spectroscopy-driven histopathologic approach has emerged as a paradigm of Raman-label (RL) nanoparticle probes for multiplex recognition of pertinent biomarkers in heterogeneous breast cancer. The nanoprobes are constructed by sequential incorporation of signature RL and target specific antibodies on gold nanoparticles, which are coined as Raman-Label surface enhanced Raman scattering (RL-SERS)-nanotags to evaluate simultaneous recognition of clinically relevant breast cancer biomarkers i.

Different wavelength emitting infrared (IR) lamps (transparent quartz tungsten (TQT), ruby-coated quartz tungsten (RCQT), and ceramic) were used for dry peeling and evaluating the spectral characteristics of emitted radiations. The maximum temperatures for ceramic, RCQT, and TQT were 560, 662, and 861°C, respectively. The peak wavelength determined by Wien's law was between 3.

We investigated the role of plant host and soil variables in determining arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) community composition in plant roots of two spatially separated mangrove estuaries on the rivers Aghanashini (14° 30' 30″ N-74° 22' 44″ E) and Gangavali (14° 35' 26″ N-74° 17' 51″ E) on the west coast of India. Both mangrove estuaries had similar plant species composition but differed in soil chemistries. We amplified a 550-bp portion of 18S small subunit (SSU) rDNA from mangrove plant roots and analysed it by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP).

Triclosan is a chlorinated phenolic antimicrobial agent having a wide application in commercial and healthcare products. The toxic effects of the emerging pollutant, triclosan (TCS), on behavior, protein content, and associated histological alterations in the muscle tissue of the freshwater fish Oreochromis mossambicus were studied. Healthy fishes were exposed to five different acute concentrations of TCS, viz.

Antiproliferative activity was confirmed in the various extracts of rhizomes of Hedychium flavescens (Zingiberaceae). The phytochemical investigation of the rhizomes of Hedychium flavescens led to the isolation of four labdane diterpenes. Their structures were established as coronarin E (1), C-14 epimers of isocoronarin D (2), C-15 epimers of coronarin D methyl ether (3) and isocoronarin D (4).

Article Synopsis
  • * An analysis of 402 patients revealed that 54% used PIMs that should be used with caution, while 45% had PIMs to avoid, with commonly prescribed medications including aspirin and diuretics.
  • * The study found that older age, polypharmacy, and having three or more medications significantly increased the risk of PIM use and serious drug interactions, suggesting regular medication reviews by pharmacists could help mitigate these risks.

The 1,4-dihydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) is one of the key coenzymes that participates in various metabolic processes including maintaining the redox balance. Early information on the imbalance of NADH is crucial in the context of diagnosing the pathogenic conditions. Thus, a dual-channel fluorescent probe () is developed for tracking of NADH/NAD(P)H in live cells.

Introduction: It is generally expected that the time required for a clot to form in an extraction socket must be similar to that of the average physiological bleeding time (2-9 minutes). However, in dental practice does hemostasis require the full clot to form or does it occur earlier? Conventionally there is no accepted average time range for socket hemostasis with estimates ranging from 20 minutes to 40 minutes. This study is an attempt to quantify the average time period required for hemostasis to occur in an extraction socket.

Motivation: Predicting Drug-Drug Interaction (DDI) has become a crucial step in the drug discovery and development process, owing to the rise in the number of drugs co-administered with other drugs. Consequently, the usage of computational methods for DDI prediction can greatly help in reducing the costs of in vitro experiments done during the drug development process. With lots of emergent data sources that describe the properties and relationships between drugs and drug-related entities (gene, protein, disease, and side effects), an integrated approach that uses multiple data sources would be most effective.
