Article Synopsis
  • - This study compares cochlear implant (CI) outcomes for speech perception in patients with sporadic vestibular schwannoma (VS) treated through observation, radiosurgery, or microsurgery.
  • - Of the 100 patients analyzed, those who underwent microsurgery had poorer speech perception scores compared to those who were observed or treated with radiosurgery, with only 61% achieving open-set speech perception after microsurgery.
  • - The findings suggest that cochlear implants can be beneficial for sporadic VS patients, particularly those managed by observation or radiosurgery, as these groups showed significantly better outcomes in achieving open-set speech perception.

Aim To evaluate the role of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in characterizing suspicious lesions in dense breasts compared to ultrasonography (USG). Materials and methods Eighty-two consecutive female patients with suspicious lesions in dense breast parenchyma showing the American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Reporting And Data System (ACR BI-RADS) c/d composition on mammography underwent USG, where 63 lesions of 63 patients were suspicious. They underwent multiparametric MRI, followed by histopathological evaluation (HPE) of the lesions.

Objective: This study investigated the comparative performance of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physicians in correctly detecting ear abnormalities when reviewing digital otoscopy imaging using 3 different visualization methods, including computer-assisted composite images called "SelectStitch," single video frame "Still" images, and video clips. The study also explored clinicians' diagnostic confidence levels and the time to make a diagnosis.

Study Design: Clinician diagnostic reader study.

Objective: To describe an AI model to facilitate adult cochlear implant candidacy prediction based on basic demographical data and standard behavioral audiometry.

Methods: A machine-learning approach using retrospective demographic and audiometric data to predict candidacy CNC word scores and AzBio sentence in quiet scores was performed at a tertiary academic center. Data for the model were derived from adults completing cochlear implant candidacy testing between January 2011 and March 2023.

Objective: The objective of the current study was to present the results of an international working group survey identifying perceived limitations of existing facial nerve grading scales to inform the development of a novel grading scale for assessing early postoperative facial paralysis that incorporates regional scoring and is anchored in recovery prognosis and risk of associated complications.

Study Design: Survey.

Setting: A working group of 48 multidisciplinary clinicians with expertise in skull base, cerebellopontine angle, temporal bone, or parotid gland surgery.

Physician solicitation of charitable contributions from patients-also known among other things as grateful patient fundraising-raises significant ethical concerns. These include pressure on patients to donate and the effects of this on the patient-physician relationship, potential expectations of donor patients for treatment that is not indicated or preferential care, justice and fairness issues, disclosure and use of confidential patient information for nontreatment purposes, and conflicts of interest. The patient-physician relationship and knowledge of the patient's medical history, clinical status, personal information, and financial circumstances are some of the reasons development and administrative officials might see physicians as strong potential fundraisers.

Hyperostosis Frontalis Interna (HFI), a condition that has been sparsely explained till now, is a benign, asymptomatic, and irregular thickening of the endocranium of the frontal bone. It is found to be predominantly present in post-menopausal women during incidental X-ray or CT/MRI of the skull. The prevalence of HFI is documented in different populations, but in the Indian population, it is comparatively rare.

Background: Prostatic cancer is the second most common malignant tumor in men. Preoperative grading of prostate cancer is important for its management. Our objective is to compare individual and combined detection rates of T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), dynamic contrast enhanced-magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI), and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) for prostate cancer with histopathological diagnosis as its golden standard.

Objective: Large vestibular aqueduct (LVA) is the most common inner ear dysplasia identified in patients with hearing loss. Our objective was to systematically quantify LVA morphologies and correlate imaging findings with established audiometric outcomes.

Study Design: Retrospective review.

The leaf area index (LAI) has been traditionally used as a photosynthetic variable. LAI plays an essential role in forest cover monitoring and has been identified as one of the important climate variables. However, due to challenges in field sampling, complex topography, and availability of cloud-free optical satellite data, LAI assessment on larger scale is still unexplored in the Sikkim Himalayan area.

Background:  Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the common causes of episodic dizziness, but it is underdiagnosed and poorly understood. Previous research suggests that otolith reflex pathway performance is often impaired in this patient group, leading to altered perception of roll plane stimuli. Clinically, this perception can be measured with subjective visual vertical (SVV) testing.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate magnetic resonance (MR) angiography (MRA) and venography (MRV) findings in tuberculous meningitis (TBM).  Thirty consecutive patients of clinically diagnosed TBM were enrolled. Apart from T2-weighted imaging, T1-weighted imaging (T1WI), diffusion-weighted imaging, susceptibility-weighted imaging, fluid-attenuated inversion recovery, and postcontrast T1WI, time-of-flight (TOF) MRA and postcontrast MRV were done in all the patients.

Background: Carcinoma of the gall bladder (Ca GB) has marked ethnic and geographical variations with a broad spectrum of imaging findings on multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT). We aim to study the spectrum of the imaging findings of Ca GB on MDCT in an Eastern Indian hospital as these imaging findings help in accurate diagnosis and staging of this lethal disease.

Materials And Methods: The MDCT images of 100 biopsy-proven cases of adenocarcinoma of GB performed from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2018, in our hospital were retrospectively reviewed by two experienced radiologists blinded to the diagnosis.

Objective: The concurrence of otosclerosis and superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD) presents a diagnostic challenge and failure to differentiate between these 2 diagnoses results in mischaracterization and unsuccessful surgery. The objective of this study is to identify the incidence of SSCD in patients who have computed tomography (CT) evidence of otosclerosis.

Study Design: Retrospective chart review.
