Mechanical Characterization of Flax and Hemp Fibers Cultivated in Romania.

This study examines the mechanical properties, specifically strength and stiffness, of technical hemp and flax fibers grown in Romania. Tensile testing was employed to determine stress-strain curves and the Young's modulus and to assess the failure strength of both fiber types. Although samples of various lengths were tested, no significant length-dependent variations were observed.

Construction and validation of conceptual and operational definitions of the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis "Ineffective health self-management" in people living with HIV/AIDS.

Purpose: Build and validate the content of conceptual and operational definitions of the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis of NANDA-I "Ineffective health self-management" in people living with HIV/AIDS.

Methods: Methodological study, with a quantitative approach. The validation was performed by 26 specialist nurses selected through the Lattes do Brazil platform.

Clinical and histopathological aspects in two cases of ligneous conjunctivitis.

Ligneous conjunctivitis represents a very rare form of chronic membranous conjunctivitis, with unknown etiology; less than 200 cases have been reported in the literature, most of them in infants and children. After 40 years, this condition appears in exceptional circumstances. We present, in this study, two patients (of 55 and 64 years old) with very severe forms of ligneous conjunctivitis, certified by histopathological examination, one of them being previously diagnosed with Lyell's syndrome.

Impression conjunctival cytology in sicca syndrome - correlations between clinical and histological findings related to dry eye severity.

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca represents a progressive deterioration of ocular surface produced by a deficient secretion of lachrymal film (quantitative disorder) or excessive tear evaporation (qualitative disorder). The cytological analysis of conjunctival impression in 42 patients with dry eye syndrome established a strong correlation between the clinical grade of severity of disease and the grade of squamous metaplasia, including goblet cell loss. The cellular anomalies were represented by modifications of keratinization, epithelial cells' anisocytosis, anisochromia, the nuclear condensation and the cytoplasmic vacuolization.

RETINAL ANGIOMATOUS PROLIFERATION CASE REPORT.

The diagnosis of RAP is similar with the diagnosis of the AMD, but PED, exudate and superficial hemorrhages are more common in RAP. A 75-year-old male presented himself at the Ophthalmology Department of the Emergency County Hospital in Craiova in January 2015, with a 4 months history of vision loss. In his right eye the visual acuity was 4/50 eye non-optical correctable and 5/5 with optical correction in the left eye.

Fulminant evolution in one case of choroidal melanoma - predictive factors for general metastasis.

Comparing with other malignant tumors, uveal melanomas determine tardive general spreading. Even in the absence of local treatment, general metastasis is less than 20%, in the first five years, many factors being involved. This paper present a particular case of choroid melanoma with very unusual and unpredictable evolution of the disease; the high growth of tumor size (in only half year the tumor almost doubled up dimensions), was associated with hepatic metastasis developed in only several months.

Formulation and In Vitro Evaluation of Alendronate Sodium/PLGA Microspheres for Applications in Bone Related Disorders.

Purpose - Bisphosphonates are a group of drugs that can be used in the development of new therapies for bone disorders. Microencapsulation by solvent evaporation is a method that results in microspheres with controlled release of the drug. The purpose of the present study was to include sodium alendronate (AL) in poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres with a good encapsulation rate.

[Normal tension glaucoma or syndrome of chronic ocular ischemia].

Chronic ischemia related to a manifest ophthalmic artery stenosis, determines extremely rare ischemic chronic modifications at the level of the optic nerve, with progressive optic atrophy and visual fun ction alteration. It is presented the case of a 59 years patient, who was hospitalized in Clinic of Ophthalmology, Emergency Clinic Districtual Hospital, for decreased vision of the left eye. Fundus eye examination reveals normal aspect of papilla of the right eye and glaucomatous like modification of the left eye, confirmed by perimetry and OCT exams, which present typical glaucomatous lesions.

[General anesthesia in ophthalmology].

General anesthesia is less utilized in ophthalmology. There are some criteria that lead to general anesthesia: patients with auditive debility, aged and senile patients, allergic patients, children and young patients, and subjects who totally refuse loco-regional procedures. General anesthesia utilizes as basic products: narcotic substances, analgesic substances, or neuroleptic substances utilized separately or associated, with posology adaptated to several factors: patients' pulse, physical statement, age, duration.
