Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how sex influences the presentation and outcomes of low-grade glioma (LGG), with a particular focus on the observation that males generally have worse prognoses.
  • Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of 532 adults diagnosed with LGG, excluding those with IDH wild-type tumors, and matched patients by sex, age, treatment, and surgery.
  • Results showed that women had significantly better overall survival rates and next intervention-free survival compared to men, indicating that being female is an independent factor for improved outcomes in LGG.

Purpose: Malignant transformation (MT) of adult grade 2 glioma (low-grade glioma [LGG]) is associated with adverse survival. We sought to describe the incidence, outcomes, and risk factors for MT of molecularly classified LGG.

Methods And Materials: We reviewed a single-institutional database of adults who received a diagnosis of LGG with data allowing for molecular classification from 1980 to 2018 to evaluate time to MT and its associated risk factors.
