The Tele-STELLA protocol: Telehealth-based support for families living with later-stage Alzheimer's disease.

Aims: We aim to establish the feasibility and acceptability of the Tele-STELLA (Support via Telehealth: Living and Learning with Advancing Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias) intervention. We will also assess the efficacy of the intervention in reducing the frequency of behavioural symptoms of dementia as well as family Care Partner reactivity to the symptoms.

Design: This is a multi-component, quasi-experimental study that focuses on facilitating effective management of behavioural symptoms that occur in the later stages of dementia.

Background: Nurse educators frequently search for innovative ways to address specific population needs such as those presented by veterans.

Method: To integrate veteran-centric content into undergraduate nursing curriculum, Veterans Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP) faculty conducted a literature review, collaborated with stakeholders, developed veteran-centric competencies, identified natural areas in existing curriculum for content integration, developed learning activities, and created a content integration map.

Results: Eight VANAP competencies were developed to guide content integration.

Finding Their Way Back In: Family Reintegration Following Guard Deployment.

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe deployed National Guard members' and their families' perceptions of their experience with family reintegration, and the causes and conditions of challenges reintegration presents after deployment.

Methods: A total of 26 National Guard members and 19 family members participated in individual (n = 22), couples (n = 6), or focus group (n = 17) interviews. In-depth interviews were used to assess needs and maximize input from military families regarding deployment-related experiences and reintegration issues.

Mammography decision making in older women with a breast cancer family history.

Purpose: This study's purpose is to describe and explain how women 55 years of age and older with a family history of breast cancer make screening mammography decisions.

Design: A qualitative design based on grounded theory. This purposeful sample consisted of 23 women 55 years of age or older with one more first-degree relatives diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Family Preferences Index: helping family members who want to participate in the care of a hospitalized older adult.

Family members are an important but often underappreciated resource in caring for hospitalized older adults. The Family Preferences Index is a 14-item approach to exploring caregivers' personal choices for participating in the care of hospitalized older adult family members. It can be administered as a structured interview or as a questionnaire.

How frail elders evaluate their caregiver's role enactment: a scale to measure affection, skill, and attentiveness.

In this validity study, using factor analysis, the authors identified three dimensions (affection, skill, and attentiveness) of the Care Receiver View of Caregiver Role Enactment Scale, a self-report measure designed to elicit an elderly care receiver's evaluation of how well their family member carried out the role of caregiver. The scale is a revision of the Satisfaction With Caregiving Scale. This study was a secondary analysis of data from PREP: Family-based Care for Frail Older Persons.

Reading statistics in nursing research: a self-study CD-ROM module.

A statistics CD-ROM tutorial program was developed to replace a classroom course with several self-study modules. For the CD-ROM delivery method, students were asked to complete a Likert-type questionnaire with response options similar to those used for end-of-course evaluations at the nursing school. Ratings ranged from 1 to 5, with 1 equaling outstanding and 5 equaling completely unsatisfactory.

Home environmental modification strategies used by caregivers of elders.

Although several definitions and categorizations of home environmental modification strategies exist, previous researchers have not addressed whether the conceptualizations developed by clinicians and researchers match the way families think about how they modify the home environment in order to provide care to frail elders. The aim of the analysis reported here was to describe, from the family's perspective, the home environmental modification strategies that they use. Twenty-four caregivers of community-dwelling elders with a variety of impairments were interviewed.

Feasibility of a virtual health and wellness center for the Oregon Air National Guard.

A cross-sectional survey of members was used to examine the feasibility of developing a virtual health and wellness center in the Oregon Air National Guard. The survey asked about the health behaviors members wanted to change and explored their current access to, and potential use of, the Internet to make these changes. Surveys were mailed to 1,368 members, and 521 (38%) were returned.
