Pin1 is a unique isomerase that regulates protein conformation and function after phosphorylation. Pin1 aberration contributes to some neurological diseases, notably Alzheimer's disease, but its role in epilepsy is not fully understood. We found that Pin1-deficient mice had significantly increased seizure susceptibility in multiple chemical inducing models and developed age-dependent spontaneous epilepsy.

Article Synopsis
  • Flax seeds are high in oil and unsaturated fatty acids, making them beneficial for preventing chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular issues; the focus on their oil content highlights the importance of understanding fatty acid metabolism in breeding efforts.
  • A study was conducted using a natural population of 224 flax seed samples across three environments, employing genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to identify genes linked to seed fatty acid content.
  • The research uncovered 16 significant SNP loci and over 11,000 differentially expressed genes, ultimately identifying 10 candidate genes linked to fatty acid metabolism, with six showing a strong correlation with oil content in seeds of the high oil variety.

Article Synopsis
  • Flax (Linum usitatissimum) is categorized into oil flax, fiber flax, and oil-fiber dual purpose, playing a significant role in the food and textile industries, making genetic evaluation essential for breeding improvements.* -
  • The study sequenced 224 flax varieties using SLAF-seq, resulting in over 346,000 SLAF tags and nearly 585,000 SNPs, revealing high genetic diversity in oil flax compared to the other types.* -
  • This research is the first of its kind to identify multiple genetic loci associated with key agronomic traits in flax through Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), contributing valuable insights for future breeding efforts.*

Article Synopsis
  • Flax is a valuable cash crop, but there is limited knowledge about its genetic traits that impact yield and quality, prompting the need for more research.
  • A study was conducted on 224 flax specimens to investigate key agronomic traits (like plant height and number of fruits) using specific techniques, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS).
  • The researchers identified 42 significant SNP loci correlated with these traits and narrowed it down to 15 candidate genes that could aid in the genetic improvement of flax's agronomic characteristics.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the high risk factors and coronary lesion features in premenopausal women with coronary artery disease (CAD) and provide guideline for diagnosis and therapy.

Methods: 114 premenopausal women and 134 postmenopausal women were conducted coronary angiography in our hospital from September, 2012 to September, 2014. According to the results of coronary angiography, premenopausal and postmenopausal women with coronary artery disease were divided into two groups respectively, including 48 premenopausal women with CAD group, 66 premenopausal women with normal coronary artery group, 76 postmenopausal women with CAD group and 58 postmenopausal women with normal coronary artery group.
