Frontal polymerization (FP) is an approach for thermosetting plastics at a lower energy cost than an autoclave. The potential to generate simultaneous propagation of multiple polymerization fronts has been discussed as an exciting possibility. However, FP initiated at more than two points simultaneously has not been demonstrated.

Background: Lymphedema (LE) is the most notable complication of axillary surgery. The axillary reverse mapping (ARM) technique was created to decrease LE. This study aims to evaluate a single surgeon's experience with ARM in patients undergoing sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) or axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) for breast cancer.

Many variables can influence the results of gastric emptying scintigraphy (GES). A lack of standardization causes variability, limits comparisons, and decreases the credibility of the study. To increase standardization, in 2009 the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) published a guideline for a standardized, validated GES protocol for adults based on a 2008 consensus document.

Frontal polymerization provides a rapid, economic, and environmentally friendly methodology to manufacture thermoset polymers and composites. Despite its efficiency and reduced environmental impact, the manufacturing method is underutilized due to the limited fundamental understanding of its dynamic control. This work reports the control and patterning of the front propagation in a dicyclopentadiene resin by immersion of phase-changing polycaprolactone particles.

Recently presented as a rapid and eco-friendly manufacturing method for thermoset polymers and composites, frontal polymerization (FP) experiences thermo-chemical instabilities under certain conditions, leading to visible patterns and spatially dependent material properties. Through numerical analyses and experiments, we demonstrate how the front velocity, temperature, and instability in the frontal polymerization of cyclooctadiene are affected by the presence of poly(caprolactone) microparticles homogeneously mixed with the resin. The phase transformation associated with the melting of the microparticles absorbs some of the exothermic reaction energy generated by the FP, reduces the amplitude and order of the thermal instabilities, and suppresses the front velocity and temperatures.

BACKGROUND This report is of a nerve sheath myxoma presenting as a slow-growing mass in the back of the left ankle of a 36-year-old man that was investigated by ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before the diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology. CASE REPORT We report a nerve sheath myxoma of the ankle in a 36-year-old man. The palpable abnormality was falsely assumed to be a ganglion cyst prior to advanced imaging.

The novel COVID-19 infection has demonstrated a spectrum of complications involving vascular, inflammatory, infectious, and metabolic conditions. These complications range from mild loss of smell to more severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Patients with more severe complications often require sedation and mechanical ventilation.

Using 100-ps Nd:YAG pump pulses, we synchronously pump an optical parametric oscillator with intracavity difference-frequency mixing (DFM) between the signal and the idler. The cavity is singly resonant at the signal frequency. The signal, idler, and difference wavelengths are near 1.

A survey of 136 employed women was conducted. Type A personality, demographic variables, job characteristics and attitudes, health habits, and physical and psychological symptoms of strain were assessed. Average Type A score was higher than the normative mean (57th percentile).

This review focuses on characteristics of the Type A behavior pattern in women in studies of demographic characteristics, physiological responses, laboratory performance, and personality. With some exceptions, these characteristics parallel those previously described for Type A men. The incidence of Type A behavior in the United States is comparable for men and women when socioeconomic factors are controlled.

While the number of hospitals incorporating psychologic preparation for surgery is increasing, little research has been done to determine whether providing information, the most common preparation, is uniformly beneficial. This study compared the effects of presenting hospital-relevant and irrelevant information on information acquisition, physiologic responsivity (heart rate, palmar sweating), self-report of medical concern, and observed anxiety, considering the factors of age and experience. Fifty-eight children between the ages of 4 and 17 scheduled for elective surgery were shown either a hospital-relevant slide tape information package or an unrelated film the night prior to surgery.
