The effect of photobiomodulation on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: A randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial.

Background: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common side effect of cancer therapy with few efficacious treatments.

Methods: We enrolled 70 patients with CIPN in a randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled, cross-over trial to determine if photobiomodulation (PBM)±physiotherapy reduced the symptoms of neuropathy compared to sham treatment. At the conclusion of follow-up, sham-arm patients could cross-over into a third arm combining PBM and physiotherapy to determine if multimodal treatment had additive effects.

Adherence to the 2012 national cervical cancer screening guidelines: a pilot study.

Objective: The goal of this pilot study was to evaluate adherence to the 2012 cervical cancer screening guidelines among health care providers in a large health maintenance organization.

Study Design: A cross-sectional survey evaluating knowledge, reported practices, and views of the 2012 cervical cancer screening guidelines was distributed to 325 health care providers within HealthPartners. The survey was divided into 3 sections: (1) provider demographics; (2) knowledge of the 2012 age-specific cancer screening guidelines; and (3) provider practice.

Necrotizing fasciitis after placement of intraperitoneal catheter.

•Necrotizing fasciitis has not previously been reported in association with placement of intraperitoneal port at time of cytoreductive surgery.•Consensus is lacking regarding the placement of intraperitoneal ports at the time of bowel surgery.•Delayed placement of intraperitoneal ports may be considered in patients undergoing bowel resection.

Antiangiogenic therapies in epithelial ovarian cancer.

Background: Angiogenesis is a critical component of tumor development and proliferation, and increased angiogenesis has been associated with a worse clinical outcome in a number of solid tumors, including ovarian cancer. Therefore, agents that target the angiogenic process are of considerable interest in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

Methods: Studies evaluating the efficacy of antiangiogenic agents in ovarian cancer are reported.
