S-palmitoylation is an important reversible protein post-translational modification in organisms. However, its role in fungi is uncertain. Here, we found the treatment of the rice false fungus with S-palmitoylation inhibitor 2 BP resulted in a significant decrease in fungal virulence.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a widespread type of cancer, and this study focused on identifying metabolism-related genes to create a predictive model for HCC prognosis by analyzing data from 466 patient cases.* -
  • The research used LASSO-Cox and LASSO-pcvl algorithms to develop a risk score that categorized patients into low- and high-risk groups, revealing that high-risk patients had significantly lower 5-year overall survival rates compared to low-risk patients.* -
  • By integrating the risk score with factors like age, gender, and tumor stage into a nomogram, the study demonstrated that this model outperformed traditional methods in predicting overall survival and enhancing personalized treatment decisions for HCC patients.*

Serum cholesterol (CHO) and C-reactive protein (CRP) have been successfully used as prognostic predictors for several malignancies, respectively. However, the clinicopathological significance of CHO and CRP levels in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with ICIs-based hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) remains unclear. Serum CHO and CRP levels were measured for a total of 152 HCC patients that had been treated with ICIs-based HAIC from February 2019 to April 2020.

Background: It has been identified that serum lipids can be used as prognostic biomarkers in several types of cancer and are associated with patient survival. We aimed to clarify the prognostic value of the serum lipids and to establish a novel effective nomogram for overall survival (OS) in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) patients receiving anti-PD1 therapy.

Methods: Pretreatment serum lipids were retrospectively analyzed for prognostic value, including apolipoprotein B (APOB), apolipoproteinA-1 (APOA1), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides (TG), which were assessed for prediction accuracy using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC).

Liver cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, and worldwide, its incidence ranks sixth, and its morality third. Post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) is the leading cause of death in patients who have undergone liver resection. This retrospective study investigated the risk factors for PHLF by predicting and constructing an index to evaluate the risk.

Purpose: To investigate the value of preoperative systemic inflammation response (SIRS) score in predicting the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatectomy.

Patients And Methods: The study analyzed 1001 patients with pathologically proven HCC who received curative resection at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between March 2016 and May 2020. Patients were randomly divided into a training cohort (n = 751) and a validation cohort (n = 250).

Introduction: To investigate the prognostic significance of liver tumor markers, the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score; neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR); and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), for predicting the specific site of recurrence or metastasis after surgery in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).

Methods: In total, 162 patients with pathologically proven ICC who underwent curative surgery at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between April 2016 and April 2020 were analyzed. Clinicopathological characteristics were collected retrospectively.

Purpose: Inflammatory response is related to tumor progression and patient survival. We aimed to clarify the prognostic value of the inflammation-based scores in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) patients receiving anti-PD1 therapy.

Patients And Methods: A total of 73 patients who received anti-PD-1 therapy from February 2019 to February 2021 were included in the study.

Dimethyl dicarbonate (DMDC), a food additive, can be added to a variety of foods as a preservative. This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effects of DMDC on in vitro and in vivo, as well as the potential antifungal mechanism. In vitro experiments showed that 250 mg/L DMDC completely inhibited the growth of and significantly inhibited spore germination by 96.

Biological control is an environmentally friendly, safe, and replaceable strategy for disease management. Genome sequences of a certain biocontrol agent could lay a solid foundation for the research of molecular biology, and the more refined the reference genome, the more information it provides. In the present study, a higher resolution genome of 34-9 was assembled using high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) technology.

Background: Patients with intermediate to advanced stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC; Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer [BCLC] stage B/C) have few choices of curable treatments and thus suffer from dismal outcomes. Although surgical resection could prolong survival in certain selected patients with BCLC stage B/C HCC, the frequent postoperative recurrence and poor survival of these patients need to be improved by combining other therapies perioperatively.

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the survival associations of adjuvant portal vein perfusion chemotherapy (PVC) and neoadjuvant hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) in patients with resectable BCLC stage B/C HCC.

Background: The present study aims to report the surgical outcome and long-term survival of conversion surgery and clarify its role in advanced gastric cancer.

Patients And Methods: A total of 95 primary advanced gastric adenocarcinoma patients who underwent systemic chemotherapy and conversion surgery were reviewed retrospectively. The survival of conversion surgery was analyzed by Cox regression and the Kaplan-Meier method.

Background: The prognostic value of preoperative controlling nutritional status (CONUT) has been reported in many malignancies. In present study, we aimed to clarify the prognostic impact of CONUT in gastric cancer (GC) receiving curative resection and adjuvant chemotherapy.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 697 consecutive patients undergoing curative surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy for Stage II-III GC between November 2000 and September 2012.
