Background: Early diagnosis and treatment of HPV persistent infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, which have yet to be thoroughly characterized in Guangxi, Southwestern China, are the key preventative measures for the development of cervical cancer in women, particularly in HIV-infected women.

Methods: A retrospective study of 181 patients with HPV infection or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia who received surgical excision of lesions and were prospectively enrolled at the Fourth People's Hospital of Nanning between January 2018 and February 2023 was performed. HPV-infected patients were divided into two subgroups: HIV-infected and HIV/HPV-coinfected patients and compare differences between these groups.

Article Synopsis
  • SARS-CoV-2 variants pose a serious health threat, leading to high rates of illness and death, prompting the need for genomic analysis.
  • Next-generation sequencing and phylogenetic analysis were used to study 80 SARS-CoV-2 genomes from COVID-19 patients, revealing a novel variant with specific mutations in the spike glycoprotein.
  • These mutations (H625R and S50L) could enhance the spike protein's flexibility and potentially alter its interaction with the ACE2 receptor, indicating ongoing evolution of the virus.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate clinical uncertainties by characterizing the accuracy and utility of commercially available antibodies of in the diagnostic assessment of suspected tuberculosis in high-burden countries.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, descriptive, cohort study among participants aged ≥ 18 years with suspected tuberculosis in Nanning, Guangxi, and China. Participants were tested for infection using commercially available antibodies against .

Objective: Microscopy was used to characterize platelet--infected erythrocyte interactions in patients infected with , , or , and to investigate the relationship between platelet-associated parasite killing and parasite clearance.

Methods: Data from 244 malaria patients admitted to the Fourth People's Hospital of Nanning between 1 January 2011 and 30 September 2022, and 45 healthy controls, were collected prospectively and assessed retrospectively. Characteristics of platelet-erythrocyte interactions were visualized by microscopy, and blood cell count and clinical profiles of these participants were obtained from the electronic medical records.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the clinical and biochemical profiles of patients with imported malaria infection between 1 January 2011 and 30 April 2022 and admitted to the Fourth People's Hospital of Nanning.

Methods: This cohort study enrolled 170 patients with conformed imported malaria infection. The clinical and biochemical profiles of these participants were analyzed with malaria parasite clearance, and signs and symptoms related to malaria disappearance were defined as the primary outcome.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study analyzed 118 patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections to assess various clinical indicators during their hospital stay.
  • * Findings revealed that specific blood markers (high ALT, AST, low CD4+, CD8+) correlated with a longer duration of detectable viral RNA, suggesting these indicators may help predict how long a patient will carry the virus.

Article Synopsis
  • - A study conducted in China focused on understanding nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary diseases (NTM-PDs) among patients showing symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), filling a knowledge gap about their epidemiology and clinical characteristics.
  • - Out of 6,766 analyzed patients, 6,236 had PTB, 458 had NTM-PD, and 72 were colonized, with NTM-PD prevalence varying significantly by region and being most common in southern areas; those affected were mainly women, older adults, and patients with bronchiectasis or COPD.
  • - NTM-PD patients typically experienced milder symptoms compared to PTB patients, underscoring the need for better awareness and understanding of

Efficient and cost-effective production of thermophilic endo-polygalacturonase is desirable for industrial fruit juice production, because its application could shorten the processing time and lower the production cost, by eliminating the separate step of pectin degradation. However, no endo-polygalacturonase that both functions well at sufficiently high temperature and can be manufactured economically, has been reported previously. In this study, the cDNA encoding a thermophilic endo-polygalacturonase from CZ1028, was cloned and over-expressed in GS115 and BL21(DE3).

: The four-carbon alcohol, butanol, is emerging as a promising biofuel and efforts have been undertaken to improve several microbial hosts for its production. However, most organisms have very low tolerance to -butanol (up to 2% (v/v)), limiting the economic viability of butanol production. Although genomic tools (transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) have been widely used to investigate the cellular response to butanol stress, the existing knowledge of the molecular mechanisms involved in butanol tolerance is limited, and strain improvement is difficult due to the complexity of the regulatory network.
