Shape and size of the nasopharyngeal airway is controlled by muscles innervated facial, glossopharyngeal, vagal, and hypoglossal cranial nerves. Contrary to brainstem networks that drive facial, vagal and hypoglossal nerve activities (FNA, VNA, HNA) the discharge patterns and origins of glossopharyngeal nerve activity (GPNA) remain poorly investigated. Here, an in situ perfused brainstem preparation (n=19) was used for recordings of GPNA in relation to phrenic (PNA), FNA, VNA and HNA.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The purpose of this review was to compare clinical outcomes, return to sport (RTS), and complications in comparative studies examining patients undergoing primary Latarjet procedure versus Latarjet in the revision setting following soft tissue stabilization.
Methods: A literature search was conducted using PubMed and Scopus databases using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Meta-Analyses guidelines. Inclusion criteria consisted of level I to III human clinical studies reporting clinical outcomes (Visual Analogue Pain Scale [VAS]), RTS metrics, and complications in patients following primary versus revision Latarjet procedures.
Objective: To review and update the literature regarding outcomes following surgical management of chronic, grade III posterolateral corner (PLC) injuries, with an emphasis on estimating failure rates based upon objective parameters in light of the 2019 expert consensus, while secondarily comparing the failure rates of anatomic versus non-anatomic reconstruction techniques.
Methods: A literature search was performed using the PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library databases. Inclusion criteria consisted of level I-IV human clinical studies reporting subjective and objective outcomes in patients following surgical management for chronic (>6 weeks from injury) grade III PLC injuries, with a minimum two-year follow-up.
Purpose: There remains controversy regarding the optimal surgical treatment for acute complete (grade III) posterolateral corner (PLC) injuries. The purpose of this article is to systematically review the contemporary literature regarding surgical options and subsequent outcomes of acute grade III PLC injuries.
Methods: A systematic review was performed using the following search terms: posterolateral corner knee, posterolateral knee, posterolateral instability, multi-ligament knee, and knee dislocation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between tunnel position in ACL reconstruction (ACL-R) and postoperative meniscus tears.
Methods: This was a single institution, case-control study of 170 patients status-post ACL-R (2010-2019) separated into two matched groups (sex, age, BMI, graft type). Group 1-symptomatic, operative meniscus tears (both de novo and recurrent) after ACL-R.

Two conformers were detected in a supersonic jet expansion, the most stable form being a chair containing the ester group in its rectangular flap. This conformation benefits from reduced CH2 bond eclipsing and angle strain, while π-electron delocalization in the ester group is increased.

The results of two new experiments suggest that reported variations in beanbag performance may instead depend on instructional effects, such as ones that emphasize proximity rather than accuracy. When the goal was to be closest to the target, underthrowing was observed, whether the target was intrinsically valuable or not.

In this report, we describe a patient who developed severe headache following epidural analgesia for labor and delivery. Although the epidural puncture had been reported to be uneventful, headache was initially suspected to result from an accidental dural puncture. After the headache worsened, a sinus venous thrombosis was suspected and subsequently confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging.

An analysis, guided by ab initio molecular orbital predictions, of frequency-scanned Stark modulated, jet-cooled millimeter wave absorption spectra (48-87 GHz) yielded a preliminary set of rotational and centrifugal distortion constants. Subsequent spectral analysis at higher resolution was carried out with Fourier transform microwave (FT-MW) spectroscopy (13-18 GHz) of a supersonic rotationally cold molecular beam.

BRMS1 expression induces many phenotypic alterations in 435 cells such as cell adhesion, cytoskeleton rearrangement, and the down regulation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression. In order to better understand the role of cellular biomechanics in breast cancer metastasis, the qualitative and quantitative detection of cellular biomechanics and biochemical composition is urgently needed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe 2008 World Health Organization (WHO) proposed revision of the classification of MDS recognizes a deletion (5q) subtype with mutation of Janus kinase-2 (JAK2(V617F)). We investigated the clonal origin of this gene mutation in a patient with del(5q) MDS presenting with thrombocytosis and normal hemoglobin. Analysis of colony forming units-granulocyte-monocyte (CFU-GM) and erythropoietin-independent growth of bone marrow (BM) and peripheral blood (PB) burst forming units-erythroid (BFU-E) showed that del(5q) and JAK2(V617F) existed in progenitors derived from independent clones.

Proteins with unknown function in the Arabidopsis genome were first identified and scanned for the presence of N-terminal signal peptides. The signal peptide-containing function-unknown proteins were further analyzed to eliminate the ones containing other sequences, such as endoplasmic reticulum and vacuole retention signals, that may prevent a protein from secretion into cell walls.

BRMS1, like other metastasis suppressors, halts ectopic growth (metastasis) without blocking orthotopic tumor formation. BRMS1-expressing tumor cells reach secondary sites but do not colonize distant tissues, compelling the hypothesis that BRMS1 selectively restricts the ability of tumor cells to respond to exogenous regulators in different tissues.
