The Trial Innovation Network Liaison Team: building a national clinical and translational community of practice.

In 2016, the National Center for Advancing Translational Science launched the Trial Innovation Network (TIN) to address barriers to efficient and informative multicenter trials. The TIN provides a national platform, working in partnership with 60+ Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) hubs across the country to support the design and conduct of successful multicenter trials. A dedicated Hub Liaison Team (HLT) was established within each CTSA to facilitate connection between the hubs and the newly launched Trial and Recruitment Innovation Centers.

Manual Rhythmic Sequencing Skills in Children With Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Purpose: Rhythm is one procedural mechanism that underlies language and motor skill acquisition and has been implicated in children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). The purpose of this study is to investigate manual rhythmic sequencing skills in children with a history of or current CAS (hx/CAS) compared to children with typical development (TD).

Method: Thirty-eight children (18 with hx/CAS, 20 with TD), ages 5;0-12;8 (years;months), from across the United States participated in an online study.

Perspectives of Rural Primary Care Clinicians on Pediatric Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Care.

Objective: Despite efficacious treatments, evidence-based guidelines, and increased availability of integrated behavioral health care, youth coping with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) receive suboptimal care. More research is needed to understand and address care gaps, particularly within rural health systems that face unique challenges. We conducted a qualitative study within a predominantly rural health system with a pediatric-integrated behavioral health care program to address research gaps and prepare for quality improvement initiatives, including primary care clinician (PCC) trainings and clinical decision support tools in the electronic health record (EHR).

Engaging Parents and Health Care Stakeholders to Inform Development of a Behavioral Intervention Technology to Promote Pediatric Behavioral Health: Mixed Methods Study.

Background: Despite effective psychosocial interventions, gaps in access to care persist for youth and families in need. Behavioral intervention technologies (BITs) that apply psychosocial intervention strategies using technological features represent a modality for targeted prevention that is promising for the transformation of primary care behavioral health by empowering parents to take charge of the behavioral health care of their children. To realize the potential of BITs for parents, research is needed to understand the status quo of parental self-help and parent-provider collaboration to address behavioral health challenges and unmet parental needs that could be addressed by BITs.

Racial differences in the treatment of pigmentation disorders in outpatient settings: analysis of US national practice data.

Objective: Pigmentary disorders tend to disproportionately affect individuals with darker skin pigmentation. An understanding of why certain patients or races present more frequently to physicians would help guide attempts for early interventions and education for these patients.

Methods: Data from the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (1996-2000) were used to examine associations between the race/ethnicity of the patient and the type of skin-related visit.

Factors important to success in the volunteer long-term care ombudsman role.

This study found that the satisfaction of one state's largely older volunteers' altruistic, affiliation, and self-improvement motives corresponded to increased organizational loyalty and better performance across several dimensions. Younger volunteers served for shorter periods and were more highly motivated by the "self-improvement" need. Altruism and organizational loyalty emerged as particularly important motivations.

Patient and physician perception of need for emergency medical care: a prospective and retrospective analysis.

The purpose of this study was to examine patients' and physicians' perceptions of the urgency of need for emergency medical care, and why patients come to the emergency department (ED). Survey instruments were utilized at EDs at an academic tertiary care center and a community hospital. Physicians' prospective assessment indicated that 65.

Emergency department applications of digital dictation and natural language processing.

The emergency physician has a number of challenges that must be addressed in providing high quality emergency health care delivery. One of these is the need to develop accurate documentation of the patient's health status and the patient's response to treatment in the ED. Digital dictation when combined with natural language processing is an evolving technology that is very user-friendly, fast, flexible, and cost-effective.

Community-based approach to weight loss: the Pawtucket "weigh-in".

The Pawtucket Heart Health Program (PHHP), in its attempt to treat obesity in the community, has delivered many traditional group and self-help weight loss programs. However, in order to reach a sufficient number of people to produce a public health impact in Pawtucket, PHHP devised a monthly city-wide "weigh-in." This program, designed to be delivered by volunteers, allowed individuals to set a weight loss goal and pledge a monetary incentive toward this goal.
