Due to the refractory and partial sensitive treatments to malignant cancers, immunotherapy has increasingly become a hotspot in effective anti-tumor research. However, at present, existing animal models could not accurately describe the interaction between human tissue and tumor cells for preclinical trials. Furthermore, it is a tough obstacle to reconstitute the immune system and microenvironment in a mouse model identical to humans due to species differences.

Recent studies have demonstrated that microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are involved in osteosarcoma tumorigenesis, progression, invasion and metastasis. For example, miR-505 plays important roles in human carcinogenesis; however, its exact function in osteosarcoma remains unclear. MicroRNA profiles of osteosarcoma and normal tissues were obtained by miRNA microarray assays, which were validated by quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how autophagy contributes to the anti-apoptotic effects of augmenter of liver regeneration (ALR) in liver cells (HepG2).
  • Researchers induced autophagy through serum deprivation and confirmed its activation by analyzing various cellular assays. They found that inhibiting autophagy with 3-MA led to increased apoptosis, especially when combined with ALR treatment.
  • The findings suggest that ALR's protective effect against cell death is partially linked to its ability to enhance autophagy, highlighting its potential as a new treatment option for liver diseases.

CD4+ central memory T cells play a critical role in the pathogenesis of simian immunodeficiency virus disease, and the CCR5 density on the surface of CD4 T cells is an important factor in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 disease progression. We hypothesized that quantifying central memory cells and CCR5 expression in the early stages of HIV-infection could provide useful prognostic information. We enrolled two different groups of acute HIV-infected subjects.

The X-ray repair cross complementing group 1 (XRCC1) protein is involved in DNA base excision repair and its expression varies during the cell cycle. Although studies have demonstrated that rapid XRCC1-dependent single-strand break repair (SSBR) takes place specifically during S/G(2) phases, it remains unclear how it is regulated during the cell cycle. We found that XRCC1 is a direct regulatory target of E2F1 and further investigated the role of XRCC1 in DNA repair during the cell cycle.
