Article Synopsis
  • Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), or photobiomodulation, aims to alter cellular activity, but its effects vary due to different irradiation methods.
  • This study tested three irradiation techniques—spot, covering, and scanning—on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) to evaluate their impact on cell growth and bone cell differentiation.
  • Results showed that covering irradiation notably increased cell proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, and mineralization markers compared to other methods and non-irradiated controls, suggesting it is the most effective approach for enhancing BMSC functions.

Background: Autogenous bone graft is the gold standard bone grafting substrate available in spinal fusion because of its osteoconductive, osteogenic, and osteoinductive properties. However, several shortcomings including bleeding, infection, chronic pain, and nerve injury are known to be associated with the procedure. Bone tissue engineering has emerged as an alternative therapeutic strategy for bone grafts.

Autogenous bone graft is the best for spinal fusion in clinics, however, lacking sources, bleeding and infection are limited its practice. Seeking alternative materials are urgent for orthopaedic surgeon. Here, we evaluated osteoblast-oriented differentiation of rabbit BMSCs by co-culturing with composite scaffolds constructed using silicon-substituted-CaP-fine particulate bone powder-alginate.

To determine the level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in experimental dog model of severe acute cauda equina syndrome, which was induced by multiple cauda equina constrictions throughout the entire lumbar (L), sacral (S) and coccygeal (Co) spinal cord and their central processes of the dorsal root ganglia neurons. Adult male mongrel dogs were randomly divided into 2 groups. The experiment group (n=4) was subjected to multiple cauda equina constrictions.

Osteoblasts play a crucial role in bone formation. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in osteoblast differentiation remain largely unclear. Runt-related gene 2 (Runx2) is a master transcriptional factor for osteoblast differentiation.

The study with stronger tillering hybrid rice ' D-you 527' showed that the more the irregularity of the seedlings horizontal distribution, the more colony stem-tillers the plants would have. Such a difference was significant 34 days after transplanting, but not significant at full heading stage. After transplanting, the trend that the variation coefficient increased with increasing irregularity of horizontal distribution presented gradually, and the difference became significant after jointing stage.
