Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of prominent machine learning algorithms in predicting normal tissue complication probability using clinical data obtained from 2 distinct disease sites and to create a software tool that facilitates the automatic determination of the optimal algorithm to model any given labeled data set.

Methods And Materials: We obtained 3 sets of radiation toxicity data (478 patients) from our clinic: gastrointestinal toxicity, radiation pneumonitis, and radiation esophagitis. These data comprised clinicopathological and dosimetric information for patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer and anal squamous cell carcinoma.

Cyanobacterial photosynthesis (to produce ATP and NADPH) might have played a pivotal role in the endosymbiotic evolution to chloroplast. However, rather than meeting the ATP requirements of the host cell, the modern-day land plant chloroplasts are suggested to utilize photosynthesized ATP predominantly for carbon assimilation. Excited state proton transfer is an ubiquitous phenomenon in biology and chemistry, spanning from the ultrafast reactions of photobases and acids to light-driven, enzymatic catalysis and photosynthesis. However, the simulation of such dynamics involves multiple challenges, since high-dimensional, out-of-equilibrium vibronic states play a crucial role, while a fully quantum description of the proton's dissipative, real-space dynamics is also required. In this work, we extend the powerful matrix product state approach to open quantum systems (TEDOPA) to study these demanding dynamics, and also more general nonadiabatic processes that can appear in complex photochemistry subject to strong laser driving.

Purpose: The Prognostic Index for Spinal Metastasis (PRISM) is a scoring system derived from prospective data from a single institution that stratifies patients undergoing spine stereotactic radiosurgery (SSRS) for spinal metastases into subgroups by overall (OS). We sought to further demonstrate its generalizability by performing validation with a large dataset from a second high-volume institution, Mayo Clinic.

Summary: ACTH-secreting pituitary adenomas causing Cushing's disease (CD) typically present with weight gain, whereas weight loss and hypokalemia in endogenous Cushing's patients are suggestive of ectopic ACTH production. We report a case of CD presenting with atypical features of marked weight loss and hypokalemia. A 75-year-old female was admitted to the hospital with a history of profound weight loss, associated with uncontrolled hypertension, hyperglycemia, severe proximal muscle weakness, and hypokalemia.

This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) process to know the present status of research on urban Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) in the lower-middle-income countries of the South Asian region, specifically India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and Pakistan, which produced 77 relevant publications after detailed scanning published between 2013 and 2022. It was aimed to analyze variations on BGI's mentions in different regions, identify BGI components found in the literature and their uses to promote urban sustainability, research initiatives, and priorities, and identify knowledge gaps for future research. The review reveals significant differences in research distribution among countries, with the majority of the articles focusing on green spaces compared to bluescapes and concentrating on topics like local inhabitant's perception of urban green spaces, advantages of implementing nature-based solutions, the role of green infrastructures in minimizing the urban heat island effect, air pollution, etc.

Conversion of heterotrophic organisms into partially or completely autotrophic organisms is primarily accomplished by extensive metabolic engineering and laboratory evolution efforts that channel CO into central carbon metabolism. Here, we develop a directed endosymbiosis approach to introduce carbon assimilation in budding yeasts. Particularly, we engineer carbon assimilating and sugar-secreting photosynthetic cyanobacterial endosymbionts within the yeast cells, which results in the generation of yeast/cyanobacteria chimeras that propagate under photosynthetic conditions in the presence of CO and in the absence of feedstock carbon sources like glucose or glycerol.

In non-perturbative non-Markovian open quantum systems, reaching either low temperatures with the hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM) or high temperatures with the Thermalized Time Evolving Density Operator with Orthogonal Polynomials Algorithm (T-TEDOPA) formalism in Hilbert space remains challenging. Friedreich's ataxia is a degenerative and progressive multisystem disorder caused by mutations in the highly conserved frataxin (FXN) gene that results in FXN protein deficiency and mitochondrial dysfunction. While gene therapy approaches are promising, consistent induction of therapeutic FXN protein expression that is sub-toxic has proven challenging, and numerous therapeutic approaches are being tested in animal models. Two -methylated fluostatins (FSTs) B3 (1) and B4 (2) were synthesized from flavin-mediated nonenzymatic epoxide ring-opening reactions of FST C. The structures of 1 and 2 were elucidated by HRESIMS, NMR, and ECD spectroscopic analyses. A subsequent C labeling study demonstrated that the -methyl groups of 1 and 2 were derived from DMSO and enabled the mechanistic proposal of a nonenzymatic -methylation.
