Article Synopsis
  • FGF isoform 13 has potential for treating heart issues, but its effects on heart fibrosis were previously unknown; this study investigates its role in cardiac fibrosis following heart pressure stress (TAC surgery).
  • In mouse models, removing FGF13 leads to decreased fibrosis and improved heart function, while FGF13 presence promotes collagen production and fibroblast activity when exposed to TGFβ.
  • The study concludes that FGF13 contributes to heart fibrosis by affecting microtubule stabilization and the ROCK signaling pathway, suggesting that targeting FGF13 could help protect the heart from damage during stress.

Article Synopsis
  • Itching is a strong sensation that leads to scratching, and the study investigates how fibroblast growth factor 13 (FGF13) affects acute and chronic itch through TRP channel proteins.
  • The research found that removing FGF13 in certain neurons significantly reduced scratching behavior in response to itch models, specifically impacting the TRPV1 channel while not affecting TRPA1.
  • The ability of FGF13 to modulate TRPV1 function relies on its effect on microtubules, and restoring FGF13 that can bind to tubulin was necessary for normal TRP channel function and itch responses in knockout mice.

X-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLP) is a rare immunodeficiency disease characterized by severe immune disorder and extreme vulnerability to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections. Here we report a 14-month-old Chinese boy presenting with fulminant infectious mononucleosis (FIM) following EBV infection, and died of hepatic failure within one week of disease progression. Postmortem examination revealed icterus, ascites, extensive enlarged mesenteric lymphnodes and hepatosplenomegaly.

Background And Objective: Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is increasingly recognized in forensic practice with controversial diagnosis. Here we described the epidemiological characteristics and reported the pathogenetic mechanism, diagnostic challenges, and forensic implications of Chinese ARVC autopsy cases.

Methods: Two cases of sudden cardiac death owing to ARVC were reported.
