Background: The most common cause of death in those with cystic fibrosis (CF) is respiratory failure due to bronchiectasis resulting from repeated cycles of respiratory infection and inflammation. Protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1) is a cell surface receptor activated by serine proteases including neutrophil elastase, which is recognised as a potent modulator of inflammation. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) serves as a crucial intervention for patients with severe pulmonary dysfunction by facilitating oxygenation and carbon dioxide removal. While traditional ECMO systems are effective, their large priming volumes and significant blood-contacting surface areas can lead to complications, particularly in neonates and pediatric patients. Microfluidic ECMO systems offer a promising alternative by miniaturizing the ECMO technology, reducing blood volume requirements, and minimizing device surface area to improve safety and efficiency.

Abstract: The effects of post-hydration heating over a broad range of temperatures are evident in many Mighei-like carbonaceous (CM) chondrites as a variety of mineral transitions. To better understand these processes and how a CM chondrite's starting composition may have affected them, we experimentally heated two meteorites with different degrees of aqueous alteration, Allan Hills 83100 and Murchison, at 25 °C temperature steps from 200 °C to 950 °C and 300 °C to 750 °C, respectively. The six International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) Baseline Nursing Standards provide the first evidence-based framework for assessing and improving pediatric oncology nursing practice settings in low-, middle-, and high-income countries. Over the past 10 years, the standards have been translated to six languages, endorsed by 13 organizations, surveyed at 101 hospitals in 54 countries, and initiatives have been documented at over 63 institutions in 31 countries. Going forward, the SIOP Nursing Network's Baseline Standards Special Interest Group has established a 5-year strategic plan to guide advocacy, research, and standards implementation through global multidisciplinary collaboration.

Australian Eastern brown snakes (Pseudonaja textilis) can cause venom-induced consumptive coagulopathy (VICC) in envenomated dogs and cats due to toxin-induced consumption of clotting factors. Background: An improved understanding of the natural history in NYHA functional class I patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM) is needed.

Objectives: Using a multicenter registry (SHaRe [Sarcomeric Human Cardiomyopathy Registry]), this study described the natural history in patients with oHCM who were classified as NYHA functional class I at the initial visit compared with patients classified as NYHA functional class II and reported baseline characteristics associated with incident clinical events.

Methods: Incident events assessed included a composite of NYHA functional class III to IV symptoms, left ventricular ejection fraction <50%, atrial fibrillation, stroke, ventricular arrhythmias, septal reduction therapy, ventricular assist device or transplantation, or death.
