Aims/background: Although women physically experience pregnancy, and grief might manifest differently, both mothers and fathers are affected similarly by perinatal loss. Research has predominately focused on Caucasian men, with the experiences of men from ethnic minority groups not researched. In the UK, the Pakistani community has one of the highest rates of perinatal loss, therefore this research aimed to explore the experiences of perinatal loss in Pakistani men.

Background: The most common cause of death in those with cystic fibrosis (CF) is respiratory failure due to bronchiectasis resulting from repeated cycles of respiratory infection and inflammation. Protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1) is a cell surface receptor activated by serine proteases including neutrophil elastase, which is recognised as a potent modulator of inflammation. While PAR1 is known to play an important role in regulating inflammation, nothing is known about any potential role of this receptor in CF pathogenesis.

While traditional ECMO systems are effective, their large priming volumes and significant blood-contacting surface areas can lead to complications, particularly in neonates and pediatric patients. Microfluidic ECMO systems offer a promising alternative by miniaturizing the ECMO technology, reducing blood volume requirements, and minimizing device surface area to improve safety and efficiency.

Abstract: The effects of post-hydration heating over a broad range of temperatures are evident in many Mighei-like carbonaceous (CM) chondrites as a variety of mineral transitions. To better understand these processes and how a CM chondrite's starting composition may have affected them, we experimentally heated two meteorites with different degrees of aqueous alteration, Allan Hills 83100 and Murchison, at 25 °C temperature steps from 200 °C to 950 °C and 300 °C to 750 °C, respectively. During heating, synchrotron in situ X-ray diffraction patterns were collected.

Objective: Eating disorders often result in distress, relationship impairment, and emotional, social, and financial burden for family members and other loved ones. However, carer outcomes from eating disorder treatment are under-researched, particularly residential settings. This study aimed to examine carer outcomes from a transdiagnostic residential service for eating disorders, which included therapist-led psychoeducation and peer support for carers.

A Decade of Achievements: International Society of Paediatric Oncology Baseline Nursing Standards.

The six International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) Baseline Nursing Standards provide the first evidence-based framework for assessing and improving pediatric oncology nursing practice settings in low-, middle-, and high-income countries. Over the past 10 years, the standards have been translated to six languages, endorsed by 13 organizations, surveyed at 101 hospitals in 54 countries, and initiatives have been documented at over 63 institutions in 31 countries. Going forward, the SIOP Nursing Network's Baseline Standards Special Interest Group has established a 5-year strategic plan to guide advocacy, research, and standards implementation through global multidisciplinary collaboration.

Objectives: In England, infectious syphilis diagnoses have reached the highest annual number since 1948. Fifty per cent of syphilis testing is now provided through online postal self-sampling sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing services (OPSS). To reduce the burden of syphilis, we need to understand the syphilis prevalence and transition to treatment rates among service users of OPSS.

Australian Eastern brown snakes (Pseudonaja textilis) can cause venom-induced consumptive coagulopathy (VICC) in envenomated dogs and cats due to toxin-induced consumption of clotting factors. The objective of this study was to describe presenting clinical signs, prevalence of VICC and haemorrhage, VICC resolution timelines and patient outcomes in a population of dogs and cats with Eastern brown snake envenomation (EBSE). Data from dogs and cats presenting with EBSE were retrospectively evaluated.

Both residential and day programs for eating disorders provide options for a step-up from standard outpatient care. However, there have not been any direct comparisons of their effectiveness and limited research on predictors of better outcomes from either setting. Community-engaged strategies to improve sexual health services for adults aged 45 and above in the United Kingdom: a qualitative data analysis.

Background Sexual health is an essential component of health and well-being across the life course. However, sexual health research often focuses on young adults and excludes those aged 45years and older. We organized a national crowdsourcing open call and co-creation events to identify recommendations to improve sexual health service provision for middle-aged and older adults in the United Kingdom (UK).

Objective: To establish reference intervals using a new point-of-care thromboelastometry device in dogs for the extrinsically activated test (EX-test), intrinsically activated test (IN-test), fibrin polymerization test (FIB-test), ecarin test (ECA-test), and tissue plasminogen activator test (TPA-test) and to investigate the effects of storage time on the results.

The Clinical Trajectory of NYHA Functional Class I Patients With Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

Background: An improved understanding of the natural history in NYHA functional class I patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM) is needed.

Objectives: Using a multicenter registry (SHaRe [Sarcomeric Human Cardiomyopathy Registry]), this study described the natural history in patients with oHCM who were classified as NYHA functional class I at the initial visit compared with patients classified as NYHA functional class II and reported baseline characteristics associated with incident clinical events.

Methods: Incident events assessed included a composite of NYHA functional class III to IV symptoms, left ventricular ejection fraction <50%, atrial fibrillation, stroke, ventricular arrhythmias, septal reduction therapy, ventricular assist device or transplantation, or death.
