Background: Accurate molecular assays for prediction of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)/susceptibility in Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng) can offer individualized treatment of gonorrhoea and enhanced AMR surveillance.

Objectives: We evaluated the new ResistancePlus® GC assay and the GC 23S 2611 (beta) assay (SpeeDx), for prediction of resistance/susceptibility to ciprofloxacin and azithromycin, respectively.

Methods: Nine hundred and sixty-seven whole-genome-sequenced Ng isolates from 20 European countries, 143 Ng-positive (37 with paired Ng isolates) and 167 Ng-negative clinical Aptima Combo 2 (AC2) samples, and 143 non-gonococcal Neisseria isolates and closely related species were examined with both SpeeDx assays.

Objectives: Improving the usability of electronic health records (EHR) continues to be a focus of clinicians, vendors, researchers, and regulatory bodies. To understand the impact of usability redesign of an existing, site-configurable feature, we evaluated the user interface (UI) used to screen for depression, alcohol and drug misuse, fall risk, and the existence of advance directive information in ambulatory settings.

The coordination of tissue-level polarity with organism-level polarity is crucial in development, disease, and regeneration. Here, we characterize a new example of large-scale control of dynamic remodeling of body polarity. Exploiting the flexibility of the body plan in regenerating planarians, we used mirror duplication of the primary axis to show how established tissue-level polarity adapts to new organism-level polarity.

We propose a method to generate stabilized radio-frequency polarization modulation based on optical frequency combs. Two pulse trains with the same repetition rate and different offset frequencies generate arbitrary polarization states that are modulated at the offset frequency difference. Long-term stability of the polarization modulation is demonstrated with the modulation frequency at f/2.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) causes an overall deficit in binaural hearing, including the abilities to localize sound sources, discriminate interaural time and level differences (ITDs and ILDs, respectively), and utilize binaural cues to aid signal detection and comprehension in noisy environments. Few studies have examined the effect of SNHL on binaural coding in the central auditory system, and those that have focused on age-related hearing loss. We induced hearing loss in male and female Dutch-belted rabbits via noise overexposure and compared unanesthetized single-unit responses of their inferior colliculi [hearing loss (HL) neurons] with those of unexposed rabbits.

Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is the most common cause of facial pain, leading to significant disability and impacting a patient's quality of life. Percutaneous procedures like continuous radiofrequency, pulsed radiofrequency (PRF), and combined continuous and pulsed radiofrequency have been studied in past years comparing different voltages in order to find more effective therapies with fewer complications (eg, numbness and masseter muscle weakness). We demonstrate simple optical frequency combs based on semiconductor quantum well laser diodes. The frequency comb spectrum can be tailored by choice of material properties and quantum-well widths, providing spectral flexibility. We demonstrate the correlation in the phase fluctuations between two devices on the same chip by generating a radio-frequency dual comb spectrum.

Objectives: This study evaluated theoretically derived mechanisms and common therapeutic factors to test their role in accounting for pain-related outcome change during group-delivered cognitive therapy, mindfulness meditation, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for chronic low back pain.

Methods: A secondary analysis of a pilot randomized controlled trial was used to explore the primary mechanisms of pretreatment to posttreatment changes in pain control beliefs, mindful observing, and pain catastrophizing, and the secondary common factor mechanisms of therapeutic alliance, group cohesion, and amount of at-home skill practice during treatment. The primary outcome was pain interference; pain intensity was a secondary outcome.

Introduction: The incidence of residual deformity in the sagittal plane of the humerus (RDSPH) after nonoperative management of type II supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHFs), and the effects of such deformity on the overall arc of motion (AOM) of the elbow, are unknown. Our purpose was to analyze data collected prospectively on a large cohort of type II SCHF's to establish the incidence and extent of RDSPH, and the effects of the deformity on the elbow function, to further support our previously published recommendations on the treatment of type II SCHF.

Methods: The clinical data and radiographs of 1107 pediatric type II SCHFs enrolled in a prospective registry, and followed for a minimum of 8 weeks, were retrospectively reviewed.

Preoperative opioid use independently predicts persistent postoperative use after most surgical procedures, and surgery on the shoulder (and labrum specifically) is no exception. Thoughtful preoperative counseling of patients regarding the risks of continued postoperative opioid use, dangers of long-term narcotic use, expectations for postoperative pain control, and potential negative effect on postoperative outcomes is time-consuming and not easy. It is important to note that we have yet to determine whether preoperative opioid users can be restored to an opioid-naive state regarding the associated superior patient-reported outcomes observed postoperatively.

Diarrhoeagenic (DEC) are difficult to distinguish from non-pathogenic commensal using traditional culture methods. The implementation of PCR targeting specific virulence genes characteristic of the five DEC pathotypes, has improved the detection of DEC in faecal specimens from patients with symptoms of gastrointestinal disease. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles of 660 strains of DEC isolated between 2015 and 2017 from UK travellers reporting symptoms of gastrointestinal disease were reviewed to look for evidence of emerging AMR associated with travellers' diarrhoea.

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a common disease in the English cocker spaniel (ECS) and is characterized histologically by duct destruction, interlobular fibrosis and dense periductular and perivenous lymphocytic aggregates. These features are also found in human autoimmune pancreatitis type 1, part of a glucocorticoid-responsive, multiorgan syndrome, newly recognized as IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). Human IgG4-RD affects one or several organs, often showing a predominance of IgG4 plasma cells histologically, with an IgG4:total IgG plasma cell ratio of >40%.
