Article Synopsis
  • Epinephrine is recommended to be given intramuscularly for faster absorption, but the study investigates whether the needle length of auto-injectors is sufficient for children.
  • The research involved 256 children aged 1-12, measuring the distance from their skin to the vastus lateralis muscle with ultrasound, and analyzing the data statistically.
  • Findings showed that a significant portion of children (12% of those <30 kg and 30% of those ≥30 kg) couldn't receive intramuscular epinephrine due to inadequate needle length, suggesting a need for longer needles on auto-injectors.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether either parental recall or a state immunization registry was as accurate as the medical record in determining immunization status in the emergency department (ED).

Methods: A convenience sample of children younger than 5 years who presented to the ED between July 2004 and May 2005 were enrolled prospectively. After obtaining informed consent, parents were asked about their child's immunization status.

In several plant species, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) activase consists of two isoforms that are produced by alternative splicing of a pre-mRNA. Two forms of activase corresponding to the longer, redox-regulated alpha and the shorter, beta forms were detected immunologically in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) leaves, but their N-termini differed in 4 of 14 residues.
