Prevalence of unused medications and determinants among the general public in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Background: Accumulation, improper storage, and disposal of unused medications in the households have become a growing public health, environmental and economic concern. However, the magnitude, reasons, and disposal practices of the problems are not well studied in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. Therefore, this study aims to assess the prevalence and determinants of unused medications at household levels in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Factors Affecting Inventory Management Performance of Tracer Medicines Across Primary Health Care Units, Gamo Zone, Southern Nations Nationalities and People's Region, Ethiopia.

Background: Inventory management ensures access to tracer medicines (TMs) for priority health-care needs. Factors that impede its performance across primary health-care units (PHCUs) are less explored in Ethiopia. The current study assessed factors affecting the inventory management performance of TMs across PHCUs, Gamo zone.

Factors contributing to medicines wastage in public health facilities of South West Shoa Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia: a qualitative study.

Background: Medicines wastage is one of the challenges of health supply chain management in developing countries including Ethiopia. However, there is lack of objective evidence on the detailed underlying causes of medicines wastage. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore factors contributing for medicines wastage in selected public health facilities of South West Shoa Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia.

Sildenafil citrate use in Addis Ababa: characteristics of users and pharmacists' dispensing practices.

Background Studies have reported misuse of sildenafil citrate for recreational purpose, not least by healthy young men. This is becoming a major concern, for medical and other reasons. Objective The aim of this study was to document the characteristics of sildenafil citrate users and to explore the dispensing practices of the medicine in selected community pharmacies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Developing and sustaining human resources in the health supply chain in Ethiopia: barriers and enablers.

Introduction: The health supply chain is often the weakest link in achieving the health-related Millennium Development Goals and universal health coverage, requiring trained professionals who are often unavailable. In Ethiopia there have been recent developments in the area of health supply chain management. The aim of this study was to explore the current status of the development of human resources in health supply chain management in Ethiopia and to identify important factors affecting this development.
