Background: The aim of our study was to evaluate in stable outpatients with systolic heart failure (HF) the 3 months effect of ivabradine on LV synchronization and Tei index in stable outpatients with systolic HF.

Methods: We evaluated prospectively 40 (30 males, 10 females) patients with HF. All patients were evaluated before and after treatment by transthoracic M mode, two dimensional (2D), pulsed-wave (PW), continuous wave (CW), color flow and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) and tissue synchronization imaging (TSI).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how physicians assist hospitalized patients with smoking cessation and what factors influence this practice.
  • The research involved 502 patients at a Turkish hospital, where responses showed that a majority were women with significant chronic diseases; current smokers were less likely among men with chronic health issues.
  • Results indicated that while a majority of physicians began the smoking intervention process, the follow-through was low, but those who received consultation during hospitalization were more likely to attempt quitting after leaving.

Introduction: Obesity is associated with atrial fibrillation and is known as an independent risk factor. The aim of our study was to investigate if there was any association between the body mass index and atrial electromechanical intervals in obese and non-obese patients.

Methods: Seventy patients were enrolled in the study.

Background: Primary care providers are uniquely positioned to initiate smoking cessation. We aimed to evaluate knowledge levels about the health effects of smoking and attitudes toward smoking and tobacco control activities among primary care providers.

Methods: In the cross-sectional and primary care-based study, self-administered surveys modified from the WHO Global Health Professional Survey 5A steps of smoking cessation practice (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist and Arrange) were provided to primary care physicians (PCPhs) and nurses (PCNs).

Article Synopsis
  • * Findings showed that patients with MetS exhibited notable differences in various health markers like lipid profile, BMI, blood pressure, and inflammatory indexes compared to those without, and these differences varied based on the number of MetS criteria met.
  • * The study concluded that uric acid, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and visceral fat composition are valuable indicators for assessing the severity of metabolic syndrome in primary care settings.

We hypothesized that patients taking warfarin require frequent hospital follow-up and they are at higher risk for complications, so the incidence of depression and anxiety is higher in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) in the period of taking warfarin compared to the period of taking dabigatran. Fifty patients having AF without valvular diseases under treatment of warfarin in whom a transition to dabigatran was planned were consecutively enrolled in this study and followed up prospectively between July 2013 and July 2014. All patients completed Beck Depression Inventory and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAS) at the initiation of study and 6 months after initiation of study.

Objective: Obesity causes subclinical inflammation. Leukocyte count and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) are used to indicate inflammation in clinical practice. Also, inflammatory markers are evaluated as important indicators of cardiovascular risk in patients with obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS).

Background: Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. Apoptosis is a necessary physiological process for cell elimination which is very important both cellular homeostasis and cell proliferation and differantiation. Dysregulation can lead to uncontrolled cell growth and tumor development.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is characterized by unpleasant sensations, pain in the legs along with irresistible urges to move the legs when at rest. It is often accompanied by sleep disturbance. The purpose of this study was to assess the association of anxiety and sleepiness with sexual function in hemodialysis patients with and without RLS.

Objectives: We aimed to assess arterial stiffness parameters and to investigate the relationship between these parameters and aortic calcification in patients with aortic arch calcification and without symptomatic atherosclerotic disease.

Study Design: The population of this study consisted of 41 patients with aortic arch calcification verified by chest X-ray (group I, 17 males, mean age 70±5 years) and individuals without aortic arch calcification (group II, 17 males, mean age 68±6 years). Subjects with symptomatic or known vascular disease were excluded from the study.

Aim: To compare the urine iodine, fluoride, and to measure thyroid volumes in 10-15-year-old children using ultrasonography, a gold standard in evaluating thyroid volume.

Methods: A total of 261 children were enrolled into the study group from the 4-8th grades of 3 different primary schools, which were in the zone with high fluoride levels. The control group was formed by enrolling 298 children from the 4-8th grades of only one primary school.

Background: Hyperthyroidism is an important cardiovascular risk factor in the development of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Increased atrial electromechanical intervals are used to predict atrial fibrillation, measured by tissue Doppler imaging (TDI).

Aims: To evaluate atrial electromechanical delay (EMD) and left atrial (LA) mechanical function in patients with overt hyperthyroidism.

Objective: This study is aimed to investigate the efficacy of erdosteine usage in acetaminophen-induced liver damage and to compare it with N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) in the treatment and prevention of liver toxicity due to overdose of acetaminophen.

Methods: The rats were separated into the following six groups of seven rats each: control group; acetaminophen (1 g/kg, orally); acetaminophen (1 g/kg, orally) + erdosteine (150 mg/kg/day, orally); acetaminophen (1 g/kg, orally) + NAC (140 mg/kg loading dose, followed by 70 mg/kg, orally); NAC (140 mg/kg loading dose, followed by 70 mg/kg, orally); erdosteine (150 mg/kg/kg, orally), subsequently. In all the groups, potential liver injuries were evaluated using biochemical and hematological analyses, oxidant-antioxidant parameters and histopathological parameters.
