Aim: To offer a practical way in which the status of healthcare assistants (HCAs) can be increased by drawing on their experience, knowledge and skillset, whilst mentoring medical students during an HCA project.
Design: Qualitative, reflexive thematic analysis.
Methods: One-to-one semi-structured interviews were conducted between April and June 2019, with 13 participants.
Aims: To explore the nature of interactions that enable older inpatients with cognitive impairments to engage with hospital staff on falls prevention.
Design: Ethnographic study.
Methods: Ethnographic observations on orthopaedic and older person wards in English hospitals (251.
Background: Students' initial experiences at university often shape their attendance and attainment. For some students, university is a positive experience, whereas others seemingly struggle and have more negative emotions. Unearthing distinctions in first-year students' emotionality may be valuable in understanding their academic engagement and performance.

Deoxycytidine kinase is the rate-limiting enzyme of the salvage pathway and it has recently emerged as a target for anti-proliferative therapies for cancers where it is essential. Here, we present the development of a potent inhibitor applying an iterative multidisciplinary approach, which relies on computational design coupled with experimental evaluations.

There have been calls to share examples of how this can be done, and this paper responds by reporting how professional and lay researchers collaborated on a research study about falls prevention among older patients in English acute hospitals. It focuses on how they worked together in ways that valued all contributions, as envisaged in the UK standards for public involvement for better health and social care research.

Little is known, however, about the use of CPT for older adults. As the United States population continues to grow and age, an understanding of the utility of CPT for older adults is vital.

Syntheses of nucleoside analogs are typically challenged by a reliance on chiral pool starting materials and inefficient synthetic routes that are not readily amenable to diversification. The novel methodology described in this protocol addresses several longstanding challenges in nucleoside analog synthesis by enabling flexible and selective access to nucleoside analogs possessing variable nucleobase substitution, D- or L-configuration, selective protection of C3'/C5' alcohols and C2' or C4' derivatizations.

Risk for developing AKI increases following intraoperative hypotension (IOH). This project aimed to describe the rate of and establish IOH as an independent risk factor for AKI among adults undergoing non-cardiac surgery at a large tertiary care medical center.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFollowing the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery in 2015, the Global Surgery Fellowships have risen in popularity, advertised as formalized opportunities for surgical trainees who have an interest in international surgical care. There is currently no up-to-date review of all fellowships available and an urgently needed overview of these opportunities is presented, including critical appraisal of their accessibility, funding, and outcomes. Detailed searches were conducted on the web engine Google, using the term "global surgery fellowship" and iterations.

This approach also furnished the related natural product bysspectin A from the same putative biosynthetic precursor as the paeciloketals. Alternatively, bysspectin A could be accessed in only six steps using an improved route.

Providing medical students with the opportunity to work as Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) can help them develop the desired skills.

Applying erosion-corrosion-resistant coatings to these components could represent an economical solution to the problem. In this work, testing of two newly developed laser metal deposited high-entropy alloy (LMD-HEA) coatings-CoCrFeNiMo and AlCoCrFeNi, applied to carbon and stainless steels-was carried out at the Hellisheidi geothermal power plant.

The administration of topical, intrawound vancomycin (vancomycin powder) has appeared promising in some studies, but others have found it ineffective in reducing infection risk; for that reason, a high-quality systematic review of the best-available evidence is needed.
Questions/purposes: In this systematic review, we asked: (1) Does topical vancomycin (vancomycin powder) reduce PJI risk in hip and knee arthroplasty? (2) Does topical vancomycin lead to an increased risk of complications after hip and knee arthroplasty?
Methods: A search of Embase, MEDLINE, and PubMed databases as of June 2020 was performed according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.
Background: (1)In limited-resource settings such as the Dominican Republic, many factors contribute to poor health outcomes experienced by adolescent mothers, including insufficient support and/or health knowledge. In response, we designed a digital educational support group, administered through WhatsApp Messenger, for new adolescent mothers. The purpose of this study was to assess if participation in this digital support group could improve health outcomes and health behaviors.

However, a systematic review investigating the rate of tear progression of partial-thickness rotator cuff tears has not been performed. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature and determine the rate of full-thickness progression in nonoperatively treated partial-thickness rotator cuff tears.

Objectives: To generate the content of a digital educational support group, administered through WhatsApp, for new adolescent mothers and establish participants' cellular access and WhatsApp use.
The first total synthesis of the potent antibiotic anthracimycin was achieved in 20 steps. The synthesis features an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction to forge the -decalin moiety, and an unprecedented aldol reaction using a complex β-ketoester to provide the tricarbonyl motif. A Stork-Zhao olefination and Grubbs ring closing metathesis delivered the /-diene and forged the macrocycle.

While lipovelutibol D was prepared using solid-phase peptide synthesis followed by an - acyl migration to install the -terminal amino alcohol, a different strategy was required to access lipovelutibol B and a series of -terminal lipid analogues of the natural products. A cytotoxicity structure-activity relationship study revealed that the lipovelutibol D framework, whereby serine is substituted for alanine in the fifth position, provided the most potent analogues.
