When immobilisation after a cervical spine or head injury is required, the role of the rigid cervical collar is unclear and controversial. There is a need for further studies investigating the use of a rigid cervical collar when head and neck trauma occurs in sport. This study will compare present practice (immobilisation with a cervical collar) to the same procedure without a collar during a simulated spinal immobilisation and extraction scenario from the field of play to the side-line in football (soccer).

[The REVELA13 observatory to study new cases of bladder tumor among women living in Bouches-du-Rhône county].

Introduction: The REVELA13 observatory is a unique epidemiological tool listing the new cases of kidney tumors, bladder tumors and acute leukaemias in the Bouches-du-Rhône county (France). Aim was to exploit for the first time data from this observatory regarding new cases of bladder tumors≥T1 in women from 2012 to 2014.

Materials: This epidemiological study was observational and descriptive.

A randomized clinical trial indicates that levamisole increases the time to relapse in children with steroid-sensitive idiopathic nephrotic syndrome.

Levamisole has been considered the least toxic and least expensive steroid-sparing drug for preventing relapses of steroid-sensitive idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (SSINS). However, evidence for this is limited as previous randomized clinical trials were found to have methodological limitations. Therefore, we conducted an international multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized clinical trial to reassess its usefulness in prevention of relapses in children with SSINS.

[Validation of visual prostate symptom score, VPSS, in the evaluation of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (550 patients)].

Objectives: Our objective was to validate the VPSS (visual prostatic symptom score) score in the French language for the identification and monitoring of BPH-related LUTS in urological practice.

Methods: A prospective observational survey was carried out between September the 15th 2014 and July the 30th 2015 in urology practices. The first 4 consecutive patients aged over 60 years, with BPH-related LUTS requiring prescription of an alpha-blocker, were enrolled.

This study analyzed the role of pelvic radiation therapy (RT) on the outcome in high-risk localized prostate cancer patients included in the Groupe d'Etude des Tumeurs Uro-Genitales (GETUG) 12 trial.

Methods And Materials: Patients with a nonpretreated high-risk localized prostate cancer and a staging lymphadenectomy were randomly assigned to receive either goserelin every 3 months for 3 years and 4 cycles of docetaxel plus estramustine or goserelin alone.

Background And Objectives: Dense deposit disease (DDD), a subtype of C3 glomerulopathy, is a rare disease affecting mostly children. Treatment options are limited. Debate exists whether eculizumab, a monoclonal antibody against complement factor C5, is effective in DDD.

Advances and challenges in the management of complement-mediated thrombotic microangiopathies.

Complement activation plays a major role in several renal pathophysiological conditions. The three pathways of complement lead to C3 activation, followed by the formation of the anaphylatoxin C5a and the terminal membrane attack complex (MAC) in blood and at complement activating surfaces, lead to a cascade of events responsible for inflammation and for the induction of cell lysis. In case of ongoing uncontrolled complement activation, endothelial cells activation takes place, leading to events in which at the end thrombotic microangiopathy can occur.

Androgen deprivation therapy plus docetaxel and estramustine versus androgen deprivation therapy alone for high-risk localised prostate cancer (GETUG 12): a phase 3 randomised controlled trial.

Background: Early risk-stratified chemotherapy is a standard treatment for breast, colorectal, and lung cancers, but not for high-risk localised prostate cancer. Combined docetaxel and estramustine improves survival in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer. We assessed the effects of combined docetaxel and estramustine on relapse in patients with high-risk localised prostate cancer.

Selection criteria for initiation and renewal of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist therapy in patients with prostate cancer: a French prospective observational study.

Objectives: To define the profile of patients with prostate cancer (PCa) receiving a 3-month or 6-month formulation of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist in France and the reasons for choosing between formulations.

Methods: This prospective 1-year observational study included patients with PCa starting LHRH agonist therapy in everyday practice. Reasons for prescription and patient preference were recorded at inclusion, 3 or 6 months, and 12 months.

The difficulty in considering modifiable pathology risk factors in children with IgA nephropathy: crescents and timing of renal biopsy.

The need for an early diagnosis of primary IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is particularly felt in children since they have a long life expectancy. However, IgAN has a slowly progressive course and renal function can even remain unchanged for decades. The long-term predictive value of modifiable risk factors, such as proteinuria and proliferative/inflammatory lesion at renal biopsy, remains unknown.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis in children.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is the most common vasculitis in children, in whom prognosis is mostly dependent upon the severity of renal involvement. Nephritis is observed in about 30% of children with HSP. Renal damage eventually leads to chronic kidney disease in up to 20% of children with HSP nephritis in tertiary care centres, but in less than 5% of unselected patients with HSP, by 20 years after diagnosis.

Eculizumab in anti-factor h antibodies associated with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.

Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a life-threatening multisystemic condition often leading to end-stage renal failure. It results from an increased activation of the alternative pathway of the complement system due to mutations of genes coding for inhibitors of this pathway or from autoantibodies directed against them. Eculizumab is a monoclonal antibody directed against complement component C5 and inhibiting the activation of the effector limb of the complement system.

Quality of life of 1276 elderly patients with prostate cancer, starting treatment with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist: results of a French observational study.

This French observational, longitudinal, prospective study described the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of elderly men (≥75 years old) with prostate cancer after initiating gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist therapy. At baseline and 3-6 months after baseline, European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaire-core 30 (QLQ-C30) and prostate-specific (QLQ-PR25) questionnaires were completed by patients. Data from 1276 patients were analyzed.

[Evolution of lower urinary tract symptoms under silodosin: factors influencing patients' satisfaction].

Unlabelled: The objective of this study was to analyze the efficacy and safety of silodosin in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in current urologic practice.

Method: This was a prospective observational study conducted by 272 urologists on patients treated by silodosin for BPH. The parameters evaluated were the weighted IPSS score, the IPSS question 8 related to quality of life, the USP score and the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) measured at treatment initiation and after 3 months.
