Premedication in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to improve mucosal visualization. A systematic review.

Objective: This review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of premedication comprising mucolytics and/or defoaming agents to improve the quality of visualization during elective upper digestive endoscopy (elective upper GI endoscopy) procedure.

Materials And Methods: A systematic review of the literature contained in electronic databases (Medline/Pubmed, Embase, and Lilacs) was performed to identify randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews that assessed patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (elective upper GI Endoscopy) under sedation, after being premedicated with mucolytics and/or defoaming agents for mucous clearance. A meta-analysis was conducted to determine the relative efficacy and safety profile of such premedication.

Design: Retrospective cohort study of adults presenting for acute care, with analysis of biomarkers from residual blood collected during routine clinical care. Latent profile analysis (LPA) of biomarker and EHR data identified subphenotypes of COVID-19 inpatients, which were validated using a separate cohort of patients.

Methods: In an open randomized controlled trial, 47 employed patients were allocated to US-guided carpal tunnel release (USCTR) and 42 to an open carpal tunnel release (OCTR) procedure. The main outcome was symptom severity measured by the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire (BCTQ-S).

Identification of a transcriptome profile associated with improvement of organ function in septic shock patients after early supportive therapy.

Background: Septic shock is the most severe complication of sepsis and this syndrome is associated with high mortality. Treatment of septic shock remains largely supportive of hemodynamics and tissue perfusion. Introduction: The deficiencies in the communication between the doctor and the patient have an impact on the care process and its therapeutic outcome. The objective of this study was to determine the perception of the information provided by treating physicians by parents or primary caregivers and the deficits observed in their relationship during the hospitalization of pediatric patients in high, medium and low complexity units.

Materials And Methods: Descriptive study carried out from January to May 2017 at the Foundation Hospital de la Misericordia, Bogotá (Colombia), through an anonymous, self-filled survey during the hospital stay, consisting of a first part of open questions, and the second by a survey Likert type with qualitative variables.
