Targeting B-cell maturation antigen for treatment and monitoring of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma patients: a comprehensive review.

Despite major therapeutic advancements in recent years, multiple myeloma (MM) remains an incurable disease with nearly all patients experiencing relapsed and refractory disease over the course of treatment. Extending the duration and durability of clinical responses will necessitate the development of therapeutics with novel targets that are capable of robustly and specifically eliminating myeloma cells. B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) is a membrane-bound protein expressed predominantly on malignant plasma cells and has recently been the target of several novel therapeutics to treat MM patients.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CART) has extended survival of patients with relapsed/refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, limited durability of response and prevalent toxicities remain problematic. Identifying patients who are at high risk of disease progression, toxicity, and death would inform treatment decisions.

A Case of Metastatic Gastric Leiomyosarcoma With Bilateral Adrenal Involvement and Complications.

Gastric leiomyosarcoma is a rare entity with only a handful of cases reported in the literature. Although this entity has been known to metastasize, there are currently no reported cases of metastatic leiomyosarcoma to the bilateral adrenal glands. We report a case of a 58-year-old woman with primary gastric leiomyosarcoma with bilateral metastasis to the adrenal gland.

Case of concurrent factor VII and factor XI deficiencies manifesting as spontaneous lower extremity compartment syndrome.

Factor VII and XI deficiencies are rare bleeding disorders typically associated with mild or provoked bleeding. This case report describes a patient with factor VII and XI deficiencies with an unprovoked episode of lower extremity hematoma causing compartment syndrome requiring multiple surgeries, extensive transfusion of blood products, and ultimately amputation.

Validity of 1% Hormonal Receptor Positivity Cutoff by the ASCO/College of American Pathologists Guidelines at the Georgia Cancer Center.

Purpose: Treatment of breast cancer (BC) with borderline or low (1%-9%) estrogen and progesterone expression remains controversial, with recent data disputing ASCO/College of American Pathologists 2010 guidelines that lowered the threshold of receptor positivity from 10% to 1%. The objective of this retrospective study was to validate these guidelines at the Georgia Cancer Center with a high percentage of Black race.

Methods: All female patients with invasive BC diagnosed between 2005 and 2010 at the Georgia Cancer Center were chart reviewed up to an 11-year follow-up with data cutoff at 2016.

A phase 2 trial of the efficacy and safety of elotuzumab in combination with pomalidomide, carfilzomib and dexamethasone for high-risk relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.

High-risk multiple myeloma (MM) continues to have a poor prognosis and remains a therapeutic challenge. This phase 2 study evaluated the efficacy and safety of elotuzumab in combination with pomalidomide, carfilzomib, and low-dose dexamethasone for patients with high-risk relapsed/refractory (RR)MM (NCT03104270). Of 13 enrolled patients, 11 were evaluable for efficacy.
