Background: Time-restricted eating (TRE), limiting daily dietary intake to a consistent 8 to 10 hours without mandating calorie reduction, may provide cardiometabolic benefits.

Objective: To determine the effects of TRE as a lifestyle intervention combined with current standard-of-care treatments on cardiometabolic health in adults with metabolic syndrome.

Design: Randomized controlled trial.

Background: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) are three syndromes that are often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. The true prevalence of these syndromes may be higher than currently reported. The following case series is the first to report a three-way association between POTS, EDS, and MTS.

Background: Increased body mass index (BMI) is considered as an important factor that affects the need for total knee and hip arthroplasty (TKA/THA) and the rate of perioperative complications. Previous investigations have not fully established the relationship of BMI and perioperative transfusion with surgical site infection (SSI) or the relationship of BMI and perioperative transfusion after TKA or THA.

Methods: The National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database was used to perform a retrospective cohort study involving 333,223 TKA and 41,157 THA cases between 2011 and 2018.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has created numerous clinical challenges for physicians, in part due to its wide range of clinical manifestations and associated complications.

Case Report: Here we present the case of a 69-year-old man who was admitted to the emergency department with fever, dyspnea, and altered mental status. We believe the patient's condition was precipitated by a COVID-19 infection-induced delirium, a setting in which he ingested aspirin and acetaminophen in overdose that required lifesaving interventions.

This study presents an integrative review of the scientific literature and federal legislation on public health policies for intellectually disabled in Brazil. Nine articles, published in the PubMed, Scopus, Virtual Health Library and Web of Science databases between 2002 and 2012, were selected. Based on the references of these studies, 6 other articles were identified, totaling 15 studies in the review.

Nanoscale thermal analysis for nanomedicine by nanocalorimetry.

Wiley Interdiscip Rev Nanomed Nanobiotechnol

June 2012

Microfabricated nanocalorimeters sensitively measure the thermal properties of nanomaterials and can be used for biomedical and in vitro measurements. This review examines the capabilities of nanocalorimeters including specific applications to nanomedicine such as measurements of nanomaterial stability, protein crystallization, ligand-protein binding, phase transitions, phase separations, interfacial reactions, and sorption-desorption phenomena. Widespread adoption of nanotechnology into clinical medicine will require a more complete understanding of the basic properties of nanomaterials, the relationship between nanomaterial processing, and physical properties and a deeper understanding of how nanomaterial physical properties control biological interactions.
