Polyamine (PA) spermidine (SPD) plays a crucial role in aging. Since SPD accumulates in glial cells, particularly in Müller retinal cells (MCs), the expression of the SPD-synthesizing enzyme spermidine synthase (SpdS) in Müller glia and age-dependent SpdS activity are not known. We used immunocytochemistry, Western blot (WB), and image analysis on rat retinae at postnatal days 3, 21, and 120.

Changes in the Localization of Polyamine Spermidine in the Rat Retina with Age.

Polyamines (PAs) in the nervous system has a key role in regeneration and aging. Therefore, we investigated age-related changes in the expression of PA spermidine (SPD) in the rat retina. Fluorescent immunocytochemistry was used to evaluate the accumulation of SPD in retinae from rats of postnatal days 3, 21, and 120.

Localization of αA-Crystallin in Rat Retinal Müller Glial Cells and Photoreceptors.

Transparent cells in the vertebrate optical tract, such as lens fiber cells and corneal epithelium cells, have specialized proteins that somehow permit only a low level of light scattering in their cytoplasm. It has been shown that both cell types contain (1) beaded intermediate filaments as well as (2) α-crystallin globulins. It is known that genetic and chemical alterations to these specialized proteins induce cytoplasmic opaqueness and visual complications.

[Management of prostate cancer biochemical recurrence in the clinical guidelines].

Objective: Review of the Guidelines which have major impact on the urological field, in order to compare and to know their recommendations in the diagnosis and management of biochemical relapse after a healing treatment of prostate cancer (radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy).

Methods: We review the Guidelines of the European Urological Association (EAU), the American Urological Association (AUA), of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and those of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), as well as the scientific evidence on which they are based.

Results: In this paper we state the complexity of the subject being dealt with and coincidences and differences among them.
