Drug dosing in obese patients continues to be challenging due to a lack of high-quality evidence to guide dosing recommendations. We first published guidance for antibiotic dosing in obese adults in 2017, in which we critically reviewed articles identified from a broad search strategy to develop dosing recommendations for 35 antimicrobials. In this updated narrative review, we searched Pubmed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library using Medical Subject Headings including anti-infectives, specific generic antimicrobial names, obese, pharmacokinetics, and others.

Background: Guidance on the recommended durations of antibiotic therapy, the use of oral antibiotic therapy, and the need for repeat blood cultures remain incomplete for gram-negative bloodstream infections. We convened a panel of infectious diseases specialists to develop a consensus definition of uncomplicated gram-negative bloodstream infections to assist clinicians with management decisions.

Methods: Panelists, who were all blinded to the identity of other members of the panel, used a modified Delphi technique to develop a list of statements describing preferred management approaches for uncomplicated gram-negative bloodstream infections.

Despite widely available nonseasonal immunization services in community pharmacies, actual pharmacist-administered vaccines are not yet optimal. 2-[N-(carboxymethyl)anilino] acetic acid (PIDAA) molecule has been spectroscopically characterized and computationally investigated for its fundamental reactive properties by a combination of density functional theory (DFT) calculations, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and molecular docking procedure. A comparison drawn between the simulated and experimentally attained spectra by FT-Raman and FT-IR showed concurrence. The natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis enabled in comprehending the stability and charge delocalization in the title molecule.

The Joint Commission has reported that although many US hospitals have implemented basic components of antimicrobial stewardship programs, there now exists a need for innovative, multidisciplinary approaches, including involving frontline clinicians such as bedside nurses.

Methods: A retrospective evaluation of bedside nurse-driven antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention rounds was conducted on a 31-bed telemetry unit of a community regional medical center.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the We Immunize Program on structures, processes, and outcomes of pneumococcal and herpes zoster pharmacy-based immunization services.

Methods: Pharmacy-technician pairs from 62 Alabama and California community pharmacies participated in a 6-month randomized controlled trial (intervention = 30/control = 32). All received immunization update training; intervention participants also received practical strategies training and monthly telephonic expert feedback.
