The Cost of Gunshot Wounds to the Head: An Unevenly Distributed Burden.

Background: Despite the significant clinical consequences and socioeconomic costs of gunshot wounds to the head (GSWH), studies examining prehospital risk factors, geospatial patterns, and economic cost are lacking.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for patients with GSWH (single or multiple injuries) presenting to the level one Ryder Trauma Center (hospital patients) as well as the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner (ME) Department, from October 2013 to October 2015. In addition, ME data were queried from the previous decade (2008-2017) to analyze longitudinal trends.

Rare presentation of angiomatosis in the paranasal sinuses mimicking juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in a 16 year old male.

Rare presentation of pediatric angiomatosis of the paranasal sinus and skull base presenting mimicking juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). This is a 16-year-old male who presented to the emergency room with acutely worsening headaches, decreased visual acuity, subjective diplopia on lateral gaze, and a skull base mass centered in the sphenoid cavity. Endoscopic biopsy at an outside facility was aborted due to profuse bleeding.

Osteosarcoma of the Pelvis: Clinical Presentation and Overall Survival.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is the most common sarcoma of bone. Pelvic osteosarcoma presents a significant therapeutic challenge due to potential late symptom onset, metastatic dissemination at diagnosis, and inherent difficulties of wide surgical resection secondary to the complex and critical anatomy of the pelvis. The rates of survival are well reported for osteosarcoma of the appendicular skeleton, but specific details regarding presentation and survival are less known for osteosarcoma of the pelvis.

Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Physical Function Validation for Use in Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion: A 2-Year Follow-up Study.

Objective: Our study aims to evaluate the correlation of Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System physical function (PROMIS PF) with legacy patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) among patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).

Methods: A prospectively maintained database was retrospectively reviewed for ACDF surgeries performed between May 2015 and September 2017. Inclusion criteria were primary elective, single- or multilevel ACDFs for degenerative spinal pathology.

Potential Lack of Association Between Three Vestigial Muscles in Humans: A Willed Body Donor Study.

Purpose: Anatomical agenesis within a population is not well understood, with variations including but not limited to complete absence, unilateral presence, or bilateral presence. Agenesis of human vestigial muscles including the palmaris longus (PL), fibularis tertius (FT), and psoas minor (PM) has been studied; however, the relationship between their presence and absence has not been examined. The purpose of this study is to analyze the prevalence of the PL, FT, and PM muscles, investigate any relationship of prevalence based on sex or race, and investigate any correlation between the presence or absence of each muscle within individual donors.
