Creating sustained and positive changes to patient safety: reducing insulin administration errors in a district nursing service.

Administering insulin in a patient's own home is perceived as a simple nursing intervention, and one that is regularly delegated to newly qualified staff, agency and bank staff. However, without robust processes and clear, easy-to-follow nursing documentation in place, a simple nursing intervention can easily lead to an avoidable medication error and patient safety incident. This article describes the steps one trust has taken to combat insulin administration incidents.

Dimensional accuracy of microcomputed tomography-scanned half-arch impressions.

Statement Of Problem: Accuracy in impression making may be enhanced by digitizing the physical impression directly and thereby be unhampered by errors introduced by gypsum casts.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the dimensional accuracy of microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) scans of impressions with that of optical scans of impressions and gypsum casts.

It describes the adoption, adaption, implementation, delivery and interim evaluation of the programme. The article sets out the background that led to adoption of the 7 Habits for Healthcare programme and discusses the concepts outlined.

Evaluation of organisational culture and nurse burnout.

A survey of nurses working with older adults across three NHS trusts was conducted to explore how perceptions of the workplace affect nurse wellbeing. Standardised validated measures were used to assess burnout, perceived organisational support and organisational culture. Significant associations were found between innovative organisational culture and nurses' sense of personal accomplishment, which reduce the likelihood of burnout.
