SportAccord organized the inaugural HealthAccord conference on April 19, 2018, in Bangkok, Thailand. The goal of HealthAccord is for the International Sport Federations (IF) and sport industry leaders to address high-priority issues facing sport through a serious commitment to innovation to protect athlete health, to enhance athlete performance, and to stimulate action to improve global health through the promotion of physical activity. The first HeathAccord conference was organized by drawing on the knowledge and experience of experts from global health programs focused on athletes and global citizens, respectively.

Background: Recent years have seen a surge in projects that produce large volumes of structured, machine-readable biodiversity data. To make these data amenable to processing by generic, open source "data enrichment" workflows, they are increasingly being represented in a variety of standards-compliant interchange formats. Here, we report on an initiative in which software developers and taxonomists came together to address the challenges and highlight the opportunities in the enrichment of such biodiversity data by engaging in intensive, collaborative software development: The Biodiversity Data Enrichment Hackathon.

Background: As biological disciplines extend into the 'big data' world, they will need a names-based infrastructure to index and interconnect distributed data. The infrastructure must have access to all names of all organisms if it is to manage all information. Those who compile lists of species hold different views as to the intellectual property rights that apply to the lists.
