In this paper, we describe for the first time the synthesis of new chiral nanosized metal oxide surfaces based on chiral self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) coated with metal oxide (TiO2) nanolayers. In this new type of nanosize chiral surface, the metal oxide nanolayers enable the protection of the chiral self-assembled monolayers while preserving their enantioselective nature. The chiral nature of the SAM/TiO2 films was characterized by variety of unique techniques, such as second-harmonic generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD), quartz crystal microbalance, and chiral adsorption measurements with circular dichroism spectroscopy.

The ApoE4 allele is the strongest genetic risk factor for late-onset AD, and apoE4 protein preferentially catalyzes amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptide fibrillization in vitro and amyloid plaque deposition in vivo. Circulating apoE may also have the potential to draw Aβ from the brain and reduce amyloid deposition.

In this paper, the preparation and use of chiral surfaces derived from enantiomerically pure crystals of amino acids are described. For this purpose, a self-assembly process to grow thin chiral films of (+)-L- or (-)-D-cysteine on gold surfaces was chosen. These chiral films were utilized as crystallization catalysts in the crystallization of enantiomers from solutions.

For this purpose, we chose to employ a self-assembly process to grow nanoscale chiral films of (+)-L or (-)-D cysteine, onto gold surfaces. We utilized those chiral films as resolving auxiliaries in the crystallization of enantiomers from solutions.
