Role of late renal revascularization in functional renal salvage.

The duration that renal parenchyma will tolerate ischemia has continued to be debated. We have reported the cases of three patients who had undergone revascularization procedures with successful return of baseline renal function after prolonged renal artery occlusion of 14 days to 3 months. These cases highlight that aggressive revascularization can lead to successful renal salvage in selected patients.

Acute iatrogenic polycythemia induced by massive red blood cell transfusion during subtotal abdominal colectomy.

A 46 year old man was transfused ten units of packed red blood cells during subtotal colectomy after intraoperative point-of-care testing values demonstrated hemoglobin values less than seven grams per deciliter (g/dL). A postoperative hemoglobin analyzed in a standard hematologic laboratory revealed a hemoglobin value of 27.8 g/dL.

Background And Objectives: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding is considered the least invasive surgical option for the treatment of morbid obesity. Its initial popularity has been marred by recent long-term studies showing high complication rates. We sought to examine our experience with gastric banding and factors leading to reoperation.
