Psychodynamic Psychiatry in Singapore.

The authors provide an overview of the history of psychiatric services and training in Singapore, and the more recent introduction of psychodynamic psychotherapy training for psychiatric residents. They describe the current state of psychodynamic psychiatry services in the public healthcare system, including efforts at fostering psychodynamic thinking in nonpsychiatric community partners via community mental health integrated care programs and activities such as Balint Groups. They discuss current challenges in psychodynamic practice, such as the impact of language and culture on the Singaporean individual's receptiveness to psychodynamic psychotherapy, as well as systemic challenges in funding and expanding psychodynamic services.

Improvement in quality of life and psychological symptoms after treatment for primary aldosteronism: Asian Cohort Study.

Background: In addition to increased cardiovascular risk, patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) also suffer from impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychological symptoms. We assessed for changes in HRQoL and depressive symptoms in a cohort of Asian patients with PA, after surgical and medical therapy.

Methods: Thirty-four patients with PA were prospectively recruited and completed questionnaires from 2017 to 2020.

Culturally informed psychotherapy in Asian consultation-liaison psychiatry.

Psychotherapy provides substantial benefits for patients with medical illness. Western-based psychotherapies are commonly practiced by consultation-liaison psychiatrists in Asia. Although such interventions benefit Asian patients, they are limited by their cultural applicability.

Intermittent Treatment with the Psychodynamic Psychiatrist: A Patient-Centered Approach.

This study examines the experiences of patients in treatment with psychodynamic psychiatrists on an intermittent basis following an initial brief period of intensive psychotherapy and stabilization. Patients with non-psychotic disorders who received intermittent treatment answered a web-based questionnaire describing the usefulness of various supportive, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic interventions. Forty-eight out of 58 patients invited to participate completed the survey (83% response rate).

Impact of Experience-Based, Longitudinal Psychiatry Training on Family Medicine Residents' Attitudes Toward Depression and Psychiatry in Singapore: a Prospective Study.

Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an experience-based, longitudinal psychiatry training program in a Family Medicine residency on residents' attitudes toward depression and psychiatry. The secondary aim was to identify background predictor variables of changes in attitudes.

Methods: Pre- and post-training surveys were prospectively conducted on attitudes toward depression and psychiatry on Family Medicine residents undergoing an experience-based, longitudinal psychiatry training program.

Atypical Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome Precipitated by Clozapine and Quetiapine Overdose: A Diagnostic Challenge.

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare, idiosyncratic, but life-threatening adverse reaction associated with the use of antipsychotic drugs. It is characterized by a tetrad of fever, rigidity, autonomic instability, and altered mental status. Failure to diagnose NMS early and institute appropriate treatment can result in serious medical complications and death.

Folie à deux and Fregoli syndrome with greater severity in the 'secondary' - A case report.

Folie à deux and Fregoli syndrome are rarely seen in clinical practice. We present a case in which these rare syndromes co-occur. Remarkably, in this case the 'secondary' develops a more serious illness course than the 'primary' and reciprocally induces a de novo Fregoli delusion in the 'primary'.
