Achieving the Meaningful Use Standard: A Model for Implementing Change Within Medical Practices.

Purpose: Change management in medical practices is often an uphill battle. Lack of agreement on standards, ineffective leadership, inertia, inconsistent access to data, and inability to clearly define and communicate the benefits of change represent significant barriers to success. In 2009, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act created the meaningful use (MU) incentive program administered through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
