Inflammatory acute phase proteins have been reported to play a crucial role in cancer progression. Various hematologic and inflammatory markers and scores, such as the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, systemic inflammation score (SIS), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), Glasgow prognostic score, and, more recently, the Naples prognostic score, have been reported as significant prognostic markers. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the prognostic significance of the C reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) in patients with colon cancer.

Although obstetrical complications are more frequent in women with MDA, some subtypes allow normal reproduction, further delaying the diagnosis. Unicornuate uterus with a rudimentary non-communicating functioning horn is a rare form of MDA, susceptible to many gynecologic and obstetric complications such as miscarriages, premature birth, hematosalpinx, endometriosis, and chronic pelvic pain.

Although the effects of increased dietary iron consumption in the development of CRC have been previously investigated in several cohort studies, the available evidence on the involvement of iron deficiency in this process is relatively scarce. Previously published papers did not analyze specific outcomes, such as the presence of biologically aggressive histopathological characteristics, that are associated with the subtypes of iron deficiency.

Material And Methods: In total, 30 breast cancer patients scheduled for axillary lymph node dissection were enrolled in our study. The lymphatic nodes that drain the arm were identified by injecting 1 mL of blue dye in the ipsilateral upper arm; then, the ARM nodes were resected along with the other lymph nodes and sent for histological evaluation.
Purpose: Wide surgical margins are needed in order to treat locally the in situ ductal carcinoma of the breast. Breast conserving surgery using oncoplastic techniques in treating in situ ductal carcinoma can be a good option improving cosmetic and pathological outcome.
Methods: Between January 2019 and July 2019, 76 patients with invasive carcinoma associated with in situ ductal carcinoma were eligible for breast conserving surgery and were admitted to Cluj-Napoca First Surgical Clinic.
Morbid obesity (BMI>40 kg/m2) is a challenging health condition with an increasing incidence in the last decades. Conventional therapy which consists in diet and lifestyle interventions, along with pharmaceutical therapy, has a limited effect on morbidly obese patients. In this context, bariatric surgery is the most effective approach, leading to significant weight loss, along with other beneficial effects like type 2 diabetes resolution or improvement of cardiovascular status.

Although it is usually linked to the age of the implant, the predominant etiology is multifactorial. Herein, we report a case of extensive siliconoma in the axilla in the hope that our experience will contribute to clinical decision making.

As their implementation is relatively recent, experience is still limited in various centres. MRI-guided biopsy requires basic knowledge in prostate MRI and ultrasound (US), but also in the image processing protocol specific for each device.

Colonoscopy is still the gold standard for detecting premalignant lesions, but it is burdened by some complications. For instance, it is laborious, with some difficulties of acceptance for some patients, and is ultimately an imperfect standard, given that some premalignant lesions or incipient malignancies can be missed by colonoscopic evaluation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP) and high grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) patterns identified at prostate biopsy yield an important clinical significance, their presence signaling an increased likelihood of future oncological development or underdiagnosed PCa. MRI and MRI-TRUS fusion prostate biopsy have recently become the standard for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Thus, we aimed to assess the role of ASAP/HGPIN pattern in the context of these recent developments as compared with the standard systematic biopsy.

Background And Aims: Although colon cancer has a decreasing incidence trend in Europe, because of its still high frequency and not fully understood pathogenesis, this malignancy still remains a subject of intense research. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of microRNA-194 and microRNA-1228 in colon cancer proliferation.
Methods: RNA was extracted from patients with colon cancer with or without advanced disease and microRNA expression levels were determined through qRT-PCR.
Purpose: The link between the pro-inflammatory status, tumor aggressiveness and treatment response has been well established in multiple cancers. Various hematologic and biochemical variables representing surrogates for inflammation have been used as predictive markers. Our primary aim was to assess the prognostic value of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in evaluating neoadjuvant treatment response in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The "watch and wait" approach has recently been proposed as an alternative to surgery in locally-advanced rectal cancer patients that respond to neo-adjuvant chemoradiotherapy, in order to decrease its negative functional consequences upon the quality of life of these patients. Current methods show low accuracy for the identification of complete responders.
Materials And Methods: A review of the literature was conducted for articles published up to March 31th, 2019.
The use of grey scale prostate ultrasound decreased after the implementation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis and evaluation of prostate cancer. The new developments, such as multiparametric ultrasound and MRI-ultrasound fusion technology, renewed the interest for this imaging method in the assessment of prostate cancer. The purpose of this paper was to review the current role of prostate ultrasound in the setting of these new applications.
