We report the first case of a corneal ocular ectasia in an infant with Zika virus congenital infection (CZS). We suspect that the ocular embryology and neurotropism of the Zika virus could account for the corneal involvement.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco and psychotropic drug consumption by students of the Medical School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and to verify aspects related to those addictions.
Methods: This study was carried out with students of all years of the medical course invited to participate anonymously, by answering a self-applied questionnaire which was previously evaluated and adapted to Brazilian reality. It was based upon the World Health Organization's Guidelines for Student Substance Use Survey and included 25 questions about drug addiction.
Objective: To assess the hemostasis and healing of the hepatic parenchyma after segmental hepatectomy, using a dry electrocautery or an electrocautery greased with lidocaine gel, neomycin pomade, glycerin lotion, or a vaseline pomade.
Methods: Rabbits were submitted to partial hepatectomy and divided into six groups of 10 animals each: Group 1: untreated; Group 2: treated with a dry electrocautery; Group 3: treated with an electrocautery greased with lidocaine gel; Group 4: with neomycin pomade; Group 5: with glycerine lotion; Group 6: with vaseline pomade. Resected liver weight, bleeding volume and time spent to achieve hemostasis were determined.
