Objective: Empty nose syndrome (ENS) is a relatively uncommon disease that greatly impacts the quality of life and presents diagnostic challenges. We sought to identify objective clinical findings unique to patients with ENS, and in doing so identified compensatory mucosal hypertrophy in an alternating, undulating swelling on endoscopy and coronal computerized tomography (CT) that we have termed the "Serpentine Sign." Here, we investigated whether this radiographic finding is a reliable manifestation in ENS patients.

We present a case of a young woman with a history of Hashimoto's thyroiditis who presented with hypertension and headaches. An abdominal CT scan revealed a large left adrenal mass, and while laboratory tests for catecholamines and metanephrines were normal, the suspicion for pheochromocytoma remained high given the size of the mass and persistent hypertension.

Adoptively transferred donor-derived CMV-specific T cells (CMVSTs) can provide an alternative treatment modality with few side effects but are not widely available due to their patient-specific nature. Few studies have examined SSTI incidence among HIV-infected and non-HIV-infected patients in the United States after 2010.
Methods: Data were obtained for patient encounters at all academic medical center EDs affiliated with the Vizient clinical data warehouse assigned an SSTI-associated code based on the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2014.
Background: The dysregulated host immune response that defines sepsis varies as a function of both the immune status of the host and the distinct nature of the pathogen. The degree to which immunocompromising comorbidities or immunosuppressive medications affect the immune response to infection is poorly understood because these patients are often excluded from studies about septic immunity. The objectives of this study were to determine the immune response to a single pathogen (Staphylococcus aureus) among a diverse case mix of patients and to determine whether comorbidities affect immune and clinical outcomes.
