Linear growth and neurobehavioural outcome in preterm neonates (<34 weeks) at term corrected gestational age: a prospective observational study.

The present study explores the association between linear growth and neurobehavioral outcome in preterm (<34 weeks) when evaluated by NAPI score (Neurobehavioral Assessment of Preterm Infants) at term gestational age (GA). 80 preterm neonates were enrolled for this study and divided into two groups based on the increase in length/week at term corrected gestational age (CGA). Anthropometric parameters were calculated at various time points of study and scores were calculated.

Implementation of a quality improvement initiative for standardising essential newborn care in a teaching public hospital in rural central India.

Objective: Our aim was to refine the essential newborn care practices by employing the multidisciplinary peer team-led quality improvement (QI) projects.

Design: In 2017, concerning the same, the department focused on early initiation of breast feeding, prevention of hypothermia within an hour of life and rational usage of antibiotics among babies admitted to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Baseline data reported the rate of initiation of breast feeding, hypothermia and antibiotic exposure rate as 35%, 78% and 75%, respectively.

Liquid Biopsy for Detection of Pancreaticobiliary Cancers by Functional Enrichment and Immunofluorescent Profiling of Circulating Tumor Cells and Their Clusters.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have historically been used for prognostication in oncology. We evaluate the performance of liquid biopsy CTC assay as a diagnostic tool in suspected pancreaticobiliary cancers (PBC). The assay utilizes functional enrichment of CTCs followed by immunofluorescent profiling of organ-specific markers.

Neurobiological evidence and criminal competencies.

Neuroimaging and other neurobiological evidences are increasingly introduced in criminal litigation, especially when a neuropsychiatric disorder is suspected. Evaluations of criminal competencies are the most common type of criminal forensic assessment in forensic psychiatry and psychology. Given this, it is critical for forensic evaluators to understand how neuropsychiatric disorders may affect a defendant's criminal competencies and how neurobiological data may be used in competency determinations.

Profiling of circulating glial cells for accurate blood-based diagnosis of glial malignancies.

Here, we describe a blood test for the detection of glial malignancies (GLI-M) based on the identification of circulating glial cells (CGCs). The test is highly specific for GLI-M and can detect multiple grades (II-IV) and subtypes including gliomas, astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, oligoastrocytomas and glioblastomas, irrespective of gender and age. Analytical validation of the test was performed as per Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines.

Introduction: Ensuring quality of care in Low and Middle Income countries (LMICs) is challenging. Despite the implementation of various quality improvement (QI) initiatives in public and private sectors, the sustenance of improvements continues to be a major challenge. A team of healthcare professionals in India developed a digital community of practice (dCoP) focusing on QI which now has global footprints.

Early Trends to Show the Efficacy of Cordyceps militaris in Mild to Moderate COVID Inflammation.

Background/objective Cordyceps enhances animal survival against influenza by boosting the immune system. In animal studies, it also had anti-inflammatory and preventive properties. Cordyceps stimulates the immune system by increasing the activity and production of various immune cells.

Accurate prostate cancer detection based on enrichment and characterization of prostate cancer specific circulating tumor cells.

Background: The low specificity of serum PSA resulting in the inability to effectively differentiate prostate cancer from benign prostate conditions is a persistent clinical challenge. The low sensitivity of serum PSA results in false negatives and can miss high-grade prostate cancers. We describe a non-invasive test for detection of prostate cancer based on functional enrichment of prostate adenocarcinoma associated circulating tumor cells (PrAD-CTCs) from blood samples followed by their identification by immunostaining for pan-cytokeratins (PanCK), prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA), alpha methyl-acyl coenzyme-A racemase (AMACR), epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), and common leucocyte antigen (CD45).

Multi-analyte liquid biopsies for molecular pathway guided personalized treatment selection in advanced refractory cancers: A clinical utility pilot study.

Purpose: The selection of safe and efficacious anticancer regimens for treatment of patients with broadly refractory metastatic cancers remains a clinical challenge. Such patients are often fatigued by toxicities of prior failed treatments and may have no further viable standard of care treatment options. Liquid Biopsy-based multi-analyte profiling in peripheral blood can identify a majority of drug targets that can guide the selection of efficacious combination regimens.

Accurate Screening for Early-Stage Breast Cancer by Detection and Profiling of Circulating Tumor Cells.

Background: The early detection of breast cancer (BrC) is associated with improved survival. We describe a blood-based breast cancer detection test based on functional enrichment of breast-adenocarcinoma-associated circulating tumor cells (BrAD-CTCs) and their identification via multiplexed fluorescence immunocytochemistry (ICC) profiling for GCDFP15, GATA3, EpCAM, PanCK, and CD45 status.

Methods: The ability of the test to differentiate BrC cases ( = 548) from healthy women ( = 9632) was evaluated in a case-control clinical study.

Loss-of-function mutations in cause Loeys-Dietz syndrome type 3 (LDS3), a rare autosomal-dominant connective tissue disorder characterized by vascular pathology and skeletal abnormalities. Dysregulation of TGF-β/SMAD signaling is associated with abnormal skeletal features and bone fragility. To date, histomorphometric and ultrastructural characteristics of bone with mutations have not been reported in humans and the exact mechanism by which mutations cause the LDS3 phenotype is poorly understood.

Circulating tumor cell assay to non-invasively evaluate PD-L1 and other therapeutic targets in multiple cancers.

Biomarker directed selection of targeted anti-neoplastic agents such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, small molecule inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies form an important aspect of cancer treatment. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) analysis of the tumor tissue is the method of choice to evaluate the presence of these biomarkers. However, a significant barrier to biomarker testing on tissue is the availability of an adequate amount of tissue and need for repetitive sampling due to tumor evolution.

Expert Testimony in Sex Trafficking Cases.

In the courtroom, the credibility of sex trafficking survivors is often called into question. Particularly of interest are the survivors' complex behaviors and reactions, which may be misunderstood as being incongruent with claims that they were sex trafficked. Expert testimony may be essential to help the trier of fact understand the seemingly counterintuitive behavior of trafficking survivors.

Response to pazopanib-based combination regimen in a case of FGFR3 amplified gastric adenocarcinoma.

Angiogenesis inhibitors (AGI) are not presently used for the treatment of gastric cancers. This report demonstrates that angiogenesis inhibitor can be safely and effectively used in combination with cytotoxic anti-cancer agents for treatment of Gastric cancers.

Supplementing hand washing with proper use of alcoholic hand rub in a special neonatal care unit in a large academic public health institute at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Objective: The purpose was to increase use of alcoholic hand rub (AHR) in specialised newborn care unit (SNCU) to improve hand hygiene in order to reduce neonatal sepsis and mortality at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital, Jabalpur.

Design: A prospective interventional and observational study.

Methodology: We formed a quality improvement (QI) team in our SNCU consisting of doctors, nurses, auxiliary staff and parents (a floating member) to improve proper use of AHR.

Angiogenesis Inhibitors in Personalized Combination Regimens for the Treatment of Advanced Refractory Cancers.

Angiogenic factors are commonly activated in solid tumors and present a viable therapeutic target. However, anticancer treatment with angiogenesis inhibitors (AGI) is limited to a few cancers, mostly as monotherapy and not selected based on molecular indications. We aimed to determine whether patient-specific combination regimens with AGI and other anticancer agents when selected based on multi-analyte tumor interrogation (ETA: Encyclopedic Tumor Analysis) can expand the scope of AGIs in advanced refractory solid organ cancers with improved treatment responses.

Increasing adherence to plotting e-partograph: a quality improvement project in a rural maternity hospital in India.

Abnormal prolonged labour and its effects are important contributors to maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity worldwide. E-partograph is a modern tool for real-time computerised recording of labour data which improves maternal and neonatal outcome. The aim was to improve the rates of e-partograph plotting in all eligible women in the labour room from existing 30% to achieve 90% in 6 months through a quality improvement (QI) process.

Reducing late-onset neonatal sepsis in very low birthweight neonates with central lines in a low-and-middle-income country setting.

Background: Late-onset neonatal sepsis (LONS) is a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality in very low birthweight (VLBW) neonates with indwelling central lines. Compliance to central line care bundles is suboptimal in low-and-middle-income country settings. Point of care quality improvement (POCQI) method may be used to improve the compliance gap.

Institution of an antibiotic stewardship programme for rationalising antibiotic usage: a quality improvement project in the NICU of a public teaching hospital in rural central India.

Antibiotic misuse is the most common cause of antimicrobial resistance-a globally declared emergency. This necessitates the introduction of rational antibiotic usage management policy. The paediatrics department of a public teaching hospital with around 500 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions annually revealed 75% of NICU admission exposure to any antibiotics.
