Among the variety of correlated states exhibited by twisted bilayer graphene, cascades in the spectroscopic properties and in the electronic compressibility occur over larger ranges of energy, twist angle and temperature compared to other effects. This suggests a hierarchy of phenomena. Using a combined dynamical mean-field theory and Hartree calculation, we show that the spectral weight reorganisation associated with the formation of local moments and heavy quasiparticles can explain the cascade of electronic resets without invoking symmetry breaking orders.

The structure of nucleons is multidimensional and depends on the transverse momenta, spatial geometry, and polarization of the constituent partons. Such a structure can be studied using high-energy photons produced in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions. The first measurement of the azimuthal angular correlations of exclusively produced events with two jets in photon-lead interactions at large momentum transfer is presented, a process that is considered to be sensitive to the underlying nuclear gluon polarization.

Purpose: Contact lens wear can induce corneal parainflammation involving CD11c+ cell responses (24 hours), γδ T cell responses (24 hours and 6 days), and IL-17-dependent Ly6G+ cell responses (6 days). Topical antibiotics blocked these CD11c+ responses. Because corneal CD11c+ responses to bacteria require transient receptor potential (TRP) ion-channels (TRPA1/TRPV1), we determined if these channels mediate lens-induced corneal parainflammation.

Article Synopsis
  • * Gamma radiation, commonly used for sterilization, is shown to significantly degrade BMP-7 levels in DFDBA, whereas UV-C radiation appears to preserve BMP-7 more effectively.
  • * Results indicate that UV-C sterilization not only ensures sterility but also maintains a higher concentration of BMP-7 compared to gamma irradiation, making it a promising alternative for preparing bone allografts.

A search for nonresonant Higgs boson (H) pair production via gluon and vector boson (V) fusion is performed in the four-bottom-quark final state, using proton-proton collision data at 13 TeV corresponding to 138  fb^{-1} collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The analysis targets Lorentz-boosted H pairs identified using a graph neural network. It constrains the strengths relative to the standard model of the H self-coupling and the quartic VVHH couplings, κ_{2V}, excluding κ_{2V}=0 for the first time, with a significance of 6.

A search for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson (H) produced with transverse momentum (p_{T}) greater than 450 GeV and decaying to a charm quark-antiquark (cc[over ¯]) pair is presented. The search is performed using proton-proton collision data collected at sqrt[s]=13  TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1}. Boosted H→cc[over ¯] decay products are reconstructed as a single large-radius jet and identified using a deep neural network charm tagging technique.

Radiofrequency Cardiac Ablation (RFCA) is a common procedure that heats cardiac tissue to destroy abnormal signal pathways to eliminate arrhythmias. The complex multiphysics phenomena during this procedure need to be better understood to improve both procedure and device design. A deformable poromechanical model of cardiac tissue was developed that coupled joule heating from the electrode, heat transfer, and blood flow from normal perfusion and thermally driven natural convection, which mimics the real tissue structure more closely and provides more realistic results compared to previous models.

Optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) is a reliable technique for probing material surface and interface characteristics. Here, we have demonstrated a non-destructive, contactless SHG-based semiconductor/dielectric interface characterization method to measure the conduction band offset and quantitatively evaluate charge densities at the interface in oxide and at the oxide surface. This technique extracts the interface-trapped charge type (donor/acceptor) and qualitatively analyzes the process-induced variation in interface states (), oxide, and oxide surface state density.

Psychiatric disorders are common co-existing conditions in children with epilepsy and can precede or follow epilepsy onset. Therefore, when selecting anti-seizure medications (ASMs) for children with epilepsy, in addition to seizure control, careful consideration of behavioral and psychotropic effects (BPEs) is critical, as they can have a negative impact on ASM adherence and quality of life. The goal in supporting children with epilepsy is an individualized approach to maximize seizure control and minimize negative BPEs.

Production cross sections of the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of W bosons are measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13. The analysis targets Higgs bosons produced via gluon fusion, vector boson fusion, and in association with a W or Z boson. Candidate events are required to have at least two charged leptons and moderate missing transverse momentum, targeting events with at least one leptonically decaying W boson originating from the Higgs boson.

Friction at the atomic scale is determined for three different carbon nitride structures namely C N/C N, C N /C N and C N /C N employing ab-initio density functional theory (DFT). The sliding path along the lowest energy corrugations determines the static frictional forces. Both the homo-layer structures (C N/C N and C N /C N ) have higher corrugation energy and correspondingly higher static lateral forces with respect to the hetero-layer structure (C N/C N ).

Absence seizures occur in various epilepsy syndromes, including childhood and juvenile absence epilepsy and juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. When children present with absence seizures at ages when syndromes overlap, initial syndrome designation is not always possible, making early prognostication challenging. For these children, the study objective is to determine clinical and initial electroencephalograph (EEG) findings to predict the development of generalized tonic-clonic seizures, which is a factor that affects outcome.
