Anode-free solid-state batteries contain no active material at the negative electrode in the as-manufactured state, yielding high energy densities for use in long-range electric vehicles. The mechanisms governing charge-discharge cycling of anode-free batteries are largely controlled by electro-chemo-mechanical phenomena at solid-solid interfaces, and there are important mechanistic differences when compared with conventional lithium-excess batteries. This Perspective provides an overview of the factors governing lithium nucleation, growth, stripping and cycling in anode-free solid-state batteries, including mechanical deformation of lithium, the chemical and mechanical properties of the current collector, microstructural effects, and stripping dynamics.

Background: Young adults (ages 18-39 years) with cancer face unique risks for negative psychosocial outcomes. These risks could be lessened with positive psychology interventions adapted for social media if intervention messages encourage intentions to do the activities and positive message reactions and if young adults with cancer perceive few downsides.

Cu-Zn bimetallic catalysts were synthesized on 3-D gas diffusion electrodes using atomic layer deposition (ALD) techniques. Electrochemical CO reduction was evaluated, and a significant variation in the product selectivity was observed compared to unmodified Cu catalysts. As low as a single ALD cycle of ZnO resulted in a reduction of CH production and shift towards CO selectivity, which is attributed to changes in the chemical state of the surface.

Abuse-deterrent formulations of opioid analgesics (ADFs) were introduced to reduce opioid-related harms among pain patients, but post-marketing study results have been mixed. However, these studies may be subject to bias from selection criteria, comparator choice, and potential confounding by "indication," highlighting the need for thorough study design considerations. In a sample of privately insured patients prescribed ADF or non-ADF extended-release/long-acting (ER/LA) opioids in North Carolina, we implemented a version of the prevalent new-user design to evaluate the relationship between ADFs and opioid use disorder (OUD, n=235) and opioid overdose (n=18) through six months of follow-up using inverse probability-weighted cumulative incidence functions and Fine-Gray models.

Working-class first-generation (FG) college students are underrepresented in higher education and STEM. Using a longitudinal quasi-experiment, we tested the impacts of a living learning community (LLC) in the biological sciences on FG students in their first year of college (Semester 1: N = 243; Semester 2: N = 199), across three cohorts (2018-2019, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021). Participation in the LLC enhanced FG students' belonging, confidence, motivation, grades, knowledge of the social relevance of biology, and reduced STEM anxiety compared to a control group of FG students not in an LLC.

This manuscript reports the whole genome sequence of a conditionally pathogenic rhizobacterial strain, Pseudomonas putida AKMP7, which has been previously reported by us to be beneficial to Arabidopsis thaliana under well-watered conditions and pathogenic to the plant under water stress. As part of a study to understand this unique behavior, the whole genome sequence of this strain was analyzed. Based on the results, it was identified that the total length of the AKMP7 genome is 5,764,016 base pairs, and the total GC content of the genome is 62.
