Periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) sources consisting of custom-built stacks of large-area wafers provide a unique opportunity to systematically study the multi-cycle terahertz (THz) generation mechanism as they are assembled layer-by-layer. Here we investigate and optimize the THz emission from PPLN wafer stacks as a function of wafer number, pump fluence, pulse duration and chirp, wafer separation, and pump focusing. Using 135 µm-thick, 2"-diameter wafers we generate high-energy, narrowband THz pulses with central frequencies up to 0.

Throughout nature, both free radicals and transient radical reaction intermediates are vital to many biological functions. Coenzyme B is a case in point. This organometallic cofactor generates a radical pair upon activation in its dependent enzymes by substrate binding and following photolysis.

Purpose: To compare dosimetric and treatment delivery parameter differences between volumetric-modulated arc radiotherapy (VMAT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for large volume retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS).

Materials And Methods: Both VMAT and IMRT planning were performed on CT datasets of 10 patients with RPS who had been previously treated with preoperative radiotherapy. Plans were optimized to deliver ≥95% dose to the PTV and were evaluated for conformity and homogeneity.

A novel fluoride-centered triangular-bridged carboxylate complex, [Ni2Cr(μ3-F)(O2C(t)Bu)6(HO2C(t)Bu)3] (1), is reported. Simple postsynthetic substitution of the terminal pivalic acids in 1 with pyridine and 4-methylpyridine led to the isolation of [Ni2Cr(μ3-F)(O2C(t)Bu)6(C5H5N)3] (2) and [Ni2Cr(μ3-F)(O2C(t)Bu)6((4-CH3)C5H4N)3] (3). Structural and magnetic characterizations carried out on the series reveal a dominating antiferromagnetic interaction between the nickel and chromium centers leading to an S = (1)/2 ground state with a very unusual value of geff = 2.

Purpose: Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and helical tomotherapy (HT) have been adopted for radiotherapy treatment of anal canal carcinoma (ACC) due to better conformality, dose homogeneity and normal-tissue sparing compared to 3D-CRT. To date, only one published study compares dosimetric parameters of IMRT vs HT in ACC, but there are no published data comparing toxicities. Our objectives were to compare dosimetry and toxicities between these modalities.

The charge dynamics at the surface of the transparent conducting oxide and photoanode material ZnO are investigated in the presence and absence of light-harvesting colloidal quantum dots (QDs). The time-resolved change in surface potential upon photoexcitation has been measured in the m-plane ZnO (101[combining macron]0) using a laser pump-synchrotron X-ray probe methodology. By varying the oxygen annealing conditions, and hence the oxygen vacancy concentration of the sample, we find that dark carrier lifetimes at the ZnO surface vary from hundreds of μs to ms timescales, i.

Ultrafast transient absorption measurements have been used to study multiple exciton generation in solutions of PbS nanoparticles vigorously stirred to avoid the effects of photocharging. The threshold and slope efficiency of multiple exciton generation are found to be 2.5 ± 0.

Truly alloyed PbS(x)Se(1-x) (x = 0-1) nanocrystals (∼5 nm in size) have been prepared, and their resulting optical properties are red-shifted systematically as the sulfur content of the materials increases. Their optical properties are discussed using a modified Vegard's approach and the bowing parameter for these nanoalloys is reported for the first time. The alloyed structure of the nanocrystals is supported by the energy-filtered transmission electron microscope images of the samples, which show a homogeneous distribution of sulfur and selenium within the nanocrystals.
