Potato virus Y (PVY), a Potyvirus, is transmitted by aphids in a nonpersistent manner. PVY severely affects potato production worldwide. Single and mixed infections of PVY strains, namely PVY(O), PVY(NTN), and PVY(N:O) are a common occurrence in potato systems.
