Neonatal : an unusual case of congenital pneumonia requiring ECMO.

A term neonate presented with cyanosis from birth, with refractory hypoxaemia despite intubation, administration of 100% oxygen and inhaled nitric oxide. Structural congenital heart disease was excluded. He developed profuse pulmonary haemorrhage at 6 hours of life with worsening hypoxia and was transferred to a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for initiation of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (vvECMO).

Acute onset facial oedema: an unusual presentation of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in a child.

A previously fit and well girl of middle-childhood age presented to her local emergency department after waking with upper-facial swelling. She had a 24-hour preceding history of mild vomiting illness and fatigue. Examination revealed palpable splenomegaly and mild cervical lymphadenopathy, with pitting oedema of the forehead, nasal bridge and eyelids.

Plant protection products containing nanomaterials that alter the functionality or risk profile of active ingredients (nano-enabled pesticides) promise many benefits over conventional pesticide products. These benefits may include improved formulation characteristics, easier application, better targeting of pest species, increased efficacy, lower application rates, and enhanced environmental safety. After many years of research and development, nano-enabled pesticides are starting to make their way into the market.

Barriers to transition of obese patients from hospital to community.

Objectives: To identify barriers encountered by case managers in hospitals, home care agencies, and nursing homes in the transition of the obese patient from the hospital to the community.

Study Design: Exploratory descriptive design was used. Hospital case managers, nursing home administrators, and Medicare-certified home healthcare agency administrators were surveyed to identify barriers.
