Intragastric Balloon (BIB system) in the treatment of obesity and preparation of patients for surgery - own experience and literature review.

Unlabelled: Despite the recognition of bariatric surgery as the only effective method of weight reduction, we remain in search of minimally invasive methods, both for the treatment of obesity and preparation of patients for surgical procedures. The aim of the study was to determine intragastric balloon (Allergan) implantation results as the only method of treating obesity, and patient preparation for further stages of abdominal hernia operations, as well as other surgical procedures.

Material And Methods: The study presented own results considering the use of Bioenteric Intragastric Balloons (BIB system) in the treatment of pathological obesity, and preparation of patients for bariatric surgery and abdominal hernia operations.

[Evaluation of carbetocin (pabal) efficacy in the prevention of the postpartum hemorrhage in women after cesarean section--preliminary report].

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of carbetocin in prevention of PPH in women after cesarean section.

Material And Methods: We enrolled 60 patients who had undergone cesarean section in tertiary referential center, Department of Perinatology, Medical University of Lodz, Poland, between January and June 2008. Each patient obtained a single 100 microg dose of carbetocin intravenously during cesarean section, immediately after the delivery of the baby and prior to the delivery of the placenta.

[The usefulness of uterine artery doppler velocimetry in high risk pregnancy diagnostic (PIH and/or IUGR)].

Objectives: High risk pregnancy was defined as developing of pregnancy induced hypertension or/and growth retardation in the course of gestation.

Design: The main aim of the study is to analyze the usefulness of uterine artery doppler velocimetry in high risk pregnancy diagnostic.

Materials And Methods: 610 single pregnancies were included in the study.

[The results of screening program for cervical cancer in Lodz].

Objectives: Despite effective screening methods, most often tumor of the urogenital tract is still cancer of the uterine cervix. Proven in many countries the value of widespread screening of the precancerous lesions and cervical cancer justifies carrying out such prophylactic tests in Poland.

Design: Assessment of results of screening as a method of early detection of cancer of the uterine cervix among inhabitants of Łódź area.
